Milk schedule for 8m old

Hi

Not sure if this is a stupid question but my son was EBF until about a month ago. I would always BF him for his naps etc (if I was at home, he will happily fall asleep in the pram/car etc if needed).

Now that he is FF I don't know how it works haha. He has an 8oz bottle when he wakes up and then at the moment I make him another (smaller, about 6oz) for his first nap and he either falls asleep on the bottle or will have it then fall asleep after a little rock. But his first nap is only about 2.5hrs/3 after he wakes up so seems a lot of milk ? Especially as he has breakfast in-between too!

He'll then normally have another 2 x bottles throughout the day, unless he has another nap at home and he might have a bit extra to get him to sleep.

Just wondering how other parents do it? Do you give them a bottle before naps or do you get them to sleep differently? How many bottles does your 8m old have a day?

Mine was on 2 naps at this age and had 1 in the morning, 1 before each nap and 1 before bed. They were 7-8oz bottles iirc. Sounds like you've got the perfect spot 😊

A baby this age needs around 20-24oz formula a day.

I would try to avoid using the bottle as a sleep prop.
At that age I would usually do a bottle on waking, mid afternoon and bedtime.
Or if you do 4 bottles maybe make them all smaller.

Agree that he needs around 20 Floz a day. This drops to around 15 Floz/450 mls between 10 and 12 months.

It sounds as if you’re doing fine now. When it comes to dropping a bottle you could maybe try the first one and offer a cup of formula along with his breakfast?

Hmm Google tells me between 24oz - 32oz! I've always gone the latter end as my son is a big boy 😂 how did you get yours to sleep without a bottle? It's so easy to get him to nap if he's got one but I also don't want to overfeed him obviously!

Good idea :) I do think he is just taking the morning one out of habit recently so maybe I'll start doing that. X

I found that the morning bottle was the easiest to drop, especially if they have milk in their cereal. Mine still has his milk before bed at 3.5😅

What do you mean by Google, an AI answer?
I'd look on the NHS website or your formula tub - follow up formula usually says 500-600ml.
I'd guess 32oz is probably taken from an American site due to the Oz, and is for a fully formula fed baby not on solids.
