Hi everyone, at 3 months old my little girl started to become uncomfortable when drinking her milk. Up until this point everything was fine. She started to back arch when having her milk and cry. Then she developed eczema and started with often explosive poo’s. She also has reflux like symptoms ide more say on the silent side but has been bringing up more than normal of recent. She was taking 5 ounces, this has now halved the majority of feeds. She is not crying for more until the 3 hour mark. She was a very happy baby so we are blindsided with this, she is also happy outside of feeding time however sometimes is now showing pain signs in her stomach with accompanied belly noises. She was originally on hipp organic, she was then prescribed pepti 1 but refused, I moved her to cow and gate after a few people recommended, this didn’t help. We have now been prescribed neocate which she is also refusing. I have tried to slowly introduce and tried vanilla essence but no joy. I think with her being 5 months old she is very aware of what taste is now so I am getting absolutely no where, HV also told us to try a comfort milk. We tried hipp organic comfort which she also refused. I feel like all the hydrolysised milks have the same smell and taste although some worse than others. I have really bad health anxiety and anything medical sends me into a spiral, I really don’t want her to end up with an NG tube which Google is saying could potentially happen. Any advise would be greatly appreciated - from a very desperate FT mum

Try nesquick, j didn’t want to use this because of the sugar content but ultimately it was more important to have fed babies

Yes, both my girls have cmpa, they’re only toddlers still so still battling it with my youngest. Youngest was 4 months or so by the time we got her on neocate, she also wouldn’t drink it, neswuick helped. She also struggled with out thin it is too, it is a nightmare but she took it eventually

@isiteverokayshe has gone all the way down to 4 ounces now, how much was you putting in? also was the feeding clinic agreeable with this? At this point I’m not even sure I am bothered if they are or not as I am worried about how much she is drinking for her size

It was advised by her dietician, don’t worry about it the main thing is feeding her

It can be normal to drop the amount of milk they take when you switch from dairy to dairy free formulas. The dairy formula can trigger reflux and comfort feeding to ease the discomfort.

On the flip side the they are also thinner and this can trigger more reflux a thickener like gaviscon or carobel can help and they can feed less because of the pain from reflux.

The cmpa Facebook page has lots of knowledgeable mums on it. They were very helpful when I was going through this with my eldest. She didn't start on the amino acid formula until 10 months as I had been breastfeeding.
