Almost 12m old doesn’t eat or want milk?!

My daughter has always been funny with feeding from the beginning, she was never a milk guzzler and then when it came to weaning she wasn’t a food addict either. Now we are almost 1 and she still isn’t bothered. I offer 3 meals a day plus snacks and we’ve started giving just 2 bottle of 7oz and 8oz but I’m not really noticing a change. She drinks maybe 12-14oz a day and eats the bare minimum, dinner and breakfast I’d say she’s been even worse with at the moment. I can’t seem to find anyone who can relate, hoping someone can shed some light on this😅

I can understand your worry as it sounds a bit like my DD at that age. Have you had her weighed and measured recently and do you know what centiles she’s on?

Yeah she’s on the 75th percentile so she is above average, she’s being weighed on Friday next week to make sure she’s not dropping but still it’s stressful 😅

I don’t think you have any worries if she’s in the 75th centile unless she’s had a sudden change in behaviour and is lethargic?

Have a read of this guide from the Caroline Walker Trust as it give advice on portion sizes and sample menus. I think it can be quite easy to overestimate just how much they need.

Don’t forget too that the phenomenal rate of growth that they go through in the first year is now slowing down.

And I’d recommend keeping a food diary. At least for a couple of weeks. It can be really easy to focus on a single meal whereas toddler are great at self regulation and will eat lots some DSus and less on others Smile

Try not to worry as worry just makes the child worry too.

If she is measuring 75 centimetres for weight and height, give or take 2 lines for either, then there is no concern.

It is your responsibility to put good nutritious food on her table/plate, and her responsibility to eat what she can. She can’t make you cook better food and you can’t make her eat. So stick to your job and keep serving good food! Children very very very very rarely starve themselves. If you weigh/measure every 6 months you’ll pick up any real problems.

My DD now aged 26 was not keen on milk...she was formula fed and barely managed the minimum suggested amounts.
I started weaning at 4 months and by 9 months moved to cows milk. By then she was taking 2 bottles of milk only
She was quite a good eater of three meals but limited dairy and no snacks
She was on 25 th percentile, fell to 3rd percentile but was thriving hitting milestones early , never had any illnesses etc...so in just ignored all " advice " and carried on... three meals , offered snacks but didn't fuss and a bottle morning and night
She seems to have survived ok

HappyAsASandboy · 07/02/2026 19:06

😂 yes, I meant centiles. Sorry!

PJ23 · 07/02/2026 19:54

Thanks for all your advice and suggestions! It’s really appreciated and helped soothe me 😊 today was better she drank 16oz in total and ate all her 3 meals for hoping these last few months of food struggle are coming to an end 😅

If she’s tracking her centile (or not dropping too much, she probably will drop now shes moving more), and generally well; I really wouldn’t worry. Growth slows down from 12 months so they often don’t need as many calories. My 16
month old has days where she barely eats anything! That’s normal for toddlers to vary their intake day to day. Best thing is to not put on pressure on, and help her learn that she should listen to her body about eating.
