Hi, I stopped breast a week ago and my left breast is very large, heavy and sore, I am assuming this in engorgement as I used to breast feed a lot, so is it my body just trying to get back to how it was? Or is there an infection? I have no other side effects at all but it is so painful I am worried, does anyone else have this or experienced this, please help!

Hi woodstock?

I had exactly what you describe after stopping - and the hardness and soreness went on for a good week or so (had to relieve it a bit by hand expressing in the bath to ease pressure and it gradually went away).

However, that was both breasts. So since you've just got it in the one, it might be worth seeing your GP to make sure it's not mastitis. Since you've no other symptoms, I'm sure it's not, but might be worth getting it checked, especially if you get redness or feel feverish.

Apologies for the ? after your name - no idea why I did that.

need coffee....

Good advice there from theoldestcat. Warm bath and gentle massage/a little hand expressing to relieve the pressure might help.
Please keep an eye on your temp and how you are feeling. I left a sore boob too long. Mastitis developed very very quickly. Within a couple of hours it went from very sore boob but no other symptoms to raging temp, almost delirious, throwing up, massive headache and emergency GP home visit (which they never ever ever agree to unless they hear a sobbing frantic DH down the line ) Not suggesting for a minute that this will happen to you - just asking you to be very cautious and not leave it too long. If in doubt, ring the surgery. As it is a Sat morning might be worth doing now rather than the stress of the rest of the weekend with your GP shut.
When in the bath, check for any hardish lump areas (can hide and not be obvious is really tender to touch anyway) and massage these to see if you can relieve any blockages.

Thanks for that response, I'll wait two more days then maybe go to the docs on Monday, I used to feed more on the left so I wonder if that is why it is taking longer to get back to how it was, thanks so much, feel a lot better!

Hi Bagelbird and The OldestCat, not sure if you are still around but I have just expressed to ease the pain and I feel much better, but the milk was clear, is that correct? Seems odd to me? Any ideas?
