My friend has a 10 week old who hasn't done a poo for 36 hours, she doesn't seem distressed but should she be worried?

DD used to poo every 10-14 days until 6 months.

No. Up to 10 days + is normal. But she should make sure she has plenty of wipes handy when she finally does go, it'll be an up the back job.

Wry at "up the back job".

Not a problem for a baby this age.

If she is using disposable nappies, a washable wrap over the top will lessen the up the back effect. It will probably still go up the back, but just might not reach the hair!

My DS (now 5 months) has never gone any LESS than 36 hours, it's usually every 4-6 days. And frogs is right, when it does come it's a right mess

My LO used to often go for 5 or 6 days without a poo. I worried too and HVs seemed to think it was a bit odd but she didn't seem distressed and when she did finally poo it was very runny (not hard like a constipated baby's poo). She's a bit more regular now she's on solids (she's 8mo) but she's still not a big pooer! I wouldn't worry unless the baby's straining and the poo is hard.

What about a ff baby? Mine hasn't had a poo since thursday morning and is usually more regular than that. 11 weeks.

I'm no expert but I know FF babies can get constipated (whereas in theory BF babies can't). I'm sure someone will come along who knows more than me but I think there are things you can do to help things move along for a FF baby
