I am looking for parents views on the best bottles to use alongside breastfeeding. I am a first time mum, I am looking to breastfeed but also want to give baby breast milk in bottles when need to.

Also looking for the best breast pump? I've heard momcosy are good but now hearing mixed reviews.

Please dont question or put me down about why I wont be exclusively breastfeeding this is my baby and my choice for my own reasons. I know that sounds kinda rude but honestly im not trying to be. I am just looking for the best bottle and breast pump suggestions so baby can have both without too much confusion and thought this would be the best place to ask, Thank you.

For the breast pump I used the Medela swing and found it great. It’s hands free as you can put it round your neck and I found it to be a bit more powerful than mumcozy. It is louder but that wasn’t a concern for me.

For bottles we used the lansinoh bottles as these have a slow flowing teet and the shape of the teet is a good shape for latching. Main thing you want to ensure with bottles is baby can still get a nice deep latch and that the milk doesn’t come out too quick. Otherwise they get used to getting it quicker and then get frustrated at the breast as it naturally comes out slower. DS got bottles in crèche and fed off of me with no issues and no confusion.

The usual advice is not to pump or bottle feed until your supply is established which is around 6 weeks. So my best advice is to wait until baby is here and speak to other BFing mums about what works for them.

I totally get that you want to be organised but there is so much more you can do to prepare rather than buying a breast pump or bottles Smile

You can go to your local BFing Support Group before LO arrives. There is a list here but do contact them before you go along as the details may not be 100% up to date. BFing Support Groups are usually a good way of meeting other local BFing Mums and Mums-to-Be.

If you have time then read the book Breastfeeding for Beginners by Caroline Deacon.

Also have a read of these links from Kellymom on preparing to BF and get your DP/DH to read The Role of the Partner in BFing.

And lastly put the BFing Helpline Numbers in your phone and use them, dont let problems build up before you reach out Smile
