Coming off formula at 9 months

Before anyone flames me, this has been okayed with DD’s doctor but I’m still a little wary. Has anyone stopped formula around this age?

For background DD has CMPA and has been on SMA althera for months. She’s still very unsettled and suffering with silent reflux. Her doctor put her on lanzoperasole and suggested cutting soy from her diet - both done with not much improvement.

I asked her doctor about going onto amino acid formula but she suggested that at DD’s age she likely wouldn’t tolerate the taste of it and to go straight to a dairy free milk alternative and give vitamins as she eats well. DD eats a varied diet, three meals a day and I was thinking of switching to the Alpro oat milk for babies.

Any thoughts or experiences with this? She still seems very young to me but I’m at a loss with her. I didn’t take my eldest two off formula until the recommended 12 months.

Are you under a Paediatric Dietitian @Herewegoagain8?

What centile is your baby?

I would not been keen on this at all.

I'd request/take the AA formula and blend it with the current one to switch over time and add vanilla to it. Ie scoop AA 5 scoop current formula and transition over time.

our paed specialist recommended this.

You can also use the formula in food. Ie mix made up formula with potato and some oil in mashed potatoes.

Yes, although I don’t think we actually get to see the dietician. It was a paediatrician who I had the conversation with re amino acid formula. She saw DD in person. I was told there would be a dietician at the appointment but there wasn’t.

Edited

She’s on the 98th centile for weight so no problems putting in weight, she’s a little chunk.

I am not keen either, like I say I did request amino acid formula but the doctor shut me down, I’ll go back and ask again.

DD has Koko milk on her porridge, I didn’t realise they did a kids milk so I’ll have a look.

This is recent info re alternative milks. Key points are to use the ones that are fortified, and no need/benefit to the (more expensive) ones marketed as for children.
At 9 months I'd be going back and asking to 'trial' the one you asked for first.

You are very lucky that gives you a lot of flex...

The milk is pricey but we like it

He is probably palming you off.as the milk is expensive I would chased them also take your full allocation.. we were cut off dead on DS first birthday
