Supply dip in one breast 9 months in

Good evening mumsnet 😊

I have a nearly 9 month old who is ebf. I've noticed over the past couple of weeks the supply in my left breast is significantly lower. It's also taking a while for my let down to be triggered when baby is feeding from this breast. The less milk it makes, the less my baby is wanting to feed from it. My right breast is making a good amount. As soon as he's latched on he's swallowing on that side. The other side..it takes quite a bit longer and his swallowing isnt as loud if that makes sense? So I can tell he's not getting as much. He's getting frustrated on it.

He's on 3 meals a day. Doesn't take bottles, so we give water in a cup with a straw, or a munchkin 360 cup. But most of his liquid intake is breastmilk.

I'm getting a little worried. I think this all started when he was teething on one side of his mouth and was uncomfortable feeding from the left breast. And the supply just started dropping, leading to the cycle of him feeding on it less. I'm worried he'll get uncomfortable one day feeding from the right breast and there wont be enough supply in the left for him. 😟 I'm hoping to breastfeed for at least a year if possible. And ideally I'd like him to self wean.

Should I pump the side that's producing less? Or is it too late down the line for that?

Would appreciate any advice 💕

Sounds the same as mine and I think it’s to do with the teeth too - are the teeth actually through?

See if you can get him to feed from that side first. To encourage him while he’s more hungry/awake and to take a bit more. The more he feeds it should help up the supply.

@doglover867 No these ones haven't come through yet, he's still a bit more dribbly and chewing on his fingers though. Are you pumping or just leaving it?

@fashionqueen0123 thank you, yes I try to do this. I offer it first every time, he tends to drink from it first thing and in the night. Sometimes he will drink a bit from it in the day, but because he has to really work for the milk, he pulls off and just wants the other one.

Could you try some breast Conpressions when he’s feeding from that side to encourage him to stay feeding?

@SleafordSods thank you, I have tried to, he gets distracted by it and pulls off. I tried feeding after his nap today and within a second he pulled off the left breast. But straight onto the right and fed as normal. I dont know if upping my supply in that side, if possible, is pointless. I dont know what to do 😔
