Infant feeding

Colic newborn does a poo as soon as I change his nappy and begin feeding him. I’m advised to keep him upright for atleast 30mins after feeding as he vomits everything up. So what do I do!

Every single time he poops just after I spend 15 minutes changing his nappy and begin feeding him. If I change him immediately then he will vomit up all the milk he’s just consumed…

That sounds really hard! Can you get a wedge pillow and change him on that so he isn’t lying flat? Or does he still vomit?

Slightly out there, but before the feed put a layer of barrier cream on his bum. Then feed him in just a nappy, but one that isn't done up fully. When he's finished pooping during the feed, just slip the nappy off, give a very cursory clean with a wipe while still holding him scooped half upright (barrier cream will mean any bits you miss don't irritate him too much), and have another open nappy ready to whip round him. Do that one half up, then hold upright for 30 mins before proper clean up! Essentially try and catch the poo in a loose nappy and swap quickly for a fresh one, then clean up properly when his milk is digested. Maybe have one of those puppy pads over your lap for the whole thing just in case! If you have a second person to help whip out the nappy and slap on a new one even better. I had a prolific vomiter and it was hard, it gets better though.

You can get 'top hat' potties for newborns. You could nestle it under his bottom while feeding, then once he's pooed, give him a rough wipe with a towel and then clean up properly once his feed is properly finished and down? My second was a vomiter and it was so tough!

tons of barrier cream and wait out the 30 minutes although he will most likely still spit up.
hard to explain but you can hold babies upright (under the armpits) and clean their bottom half (yes the legs get wet as well) under running water (luke warm of course). this keeps him upright and gets him fully clean. putting the nappy on while upright is tricky but doable using 1 hand having loosely secured one side then re-adjust.

Your post sent me right back to the newborn days. My son was the same. So so so frustrating. It does get better!

All my babies did this.

I always finished the feed and waited for the requisite time, then changed them.

It won't do any harm - babies frequently poo in their sleep and you don't find out till the next time they wake up.
So potentially they are in a pooey nappy for a few hours.

Do use a good barrier cream. I'm sure you already do!

My youngest used to poop just after feeding. He wasn't a puker but he would only sleep if he had just been fed and a nappy change would wake him up again.

My daughter pooed as I fed, after I fed, during a nappy change and if it wasn't changed quickly she got a sore bum. She has allergies as well as reflux

My son, he can wait to have his bum changed if I need to keep him upright although can also bring up his feed during a nappy change over an hour afterwards. We are predominantly a dairy free house due to my daughters allergies so until we start weaning we won't know if he has a dairy allergy.

The amount they bring up is always less than it actually looks. If they are mostly happy and doing ok weight wise it's not necessarily a problem that the bring up some of their feed during a nappy change. Also, in most cases if you go for some half way house and hold them upright for 15-20 minutes having pooed won't necessarily harm them either
