it is incredibly painful. Have tried telling him no,and putting him down for a while, and when I latch him onto the right side he is fine, but every feed on the left is ending with him biting me??

It is getting so painful, that I fear that I may have to wean him off, and am having no luck with this either!! He will sip at his cup with the formula in but not actually drink any of it!

Can anyone recommend a way of stopping him biteing, stopping the pain in my nipple and/or how to start to wean him off?

Thanks

Is he biting or just nipping the edge? My DD does this because the nipple slips as she gets sleepy.
I sympathise - it is a horrid sharp pain!

Thanks for the reply. He is definately biting, but there is also a scraping pain like he is sucking the nipple between his teeth and scratching it!! Hope this isn't too graphic

Sorry, no experience of actual teeth as DD is only 9wks but hopefully someone else can answer. And no not too graphic at all.

I have found this happens with my dds for 2 reasons:

  1. A cold/blocked nose. They bite in frustration 'cos when they latch on they can't breathe (but this would tend to be at the beginning of a feed.).

  2. Teething. For the first few days when a tooth is coming through they would bite (maybe because their gums were feeling sore - not sure). Also you tend to feel the little edges when they first poke out, but they are fine when they are through completely.

Might explain why it's only one side....

Thanks so much for the replies.
My beautiful little man has decided to get 2 new teeth through at once (nos 4 and 5), so it looks like it is definately down to his teething, as it has now decreased (not stopped but has at least decreased!!).
Thanks again, t x
