Why is his latch so different now?

When a young baby latches on it's almost impossible to pull them off - well too painful to pull them off - without first breaking the latch. Yet 19m ds2's latch seems to be much weaker now. It's quite easy for him to slip off if either of us moves around too much. Why is this so? And is it common that the older baby latches on more loosely?

maybe he comes off on purpose if you move around?
I gues swhen they are little it's instinctive to just latch on and stay on, when they're older they'r a bit more aware of what's going on?

My DD is 10 months and her latch is like that. I agree with tiy, I think little ones latch on and hang on for dear life, whereas older babies are easily distracted when you shift around and pop off. Also, I find with DD that she's just waiting for an excuse to be distracted, so when I try to take her off that's the perfect excuse!

Also after having spend months trying to get the perfect latch, big mouthful of breast and all that, DD seems to be able to feed in all kinds of funny positions, with the nipple apparently barely in her mouth!
