Im breastfeeding, but not exclusively, and I get really bad hayfever. Iv been meaning to go to the drs all week, but havnt had time. Today I bought some Piriteze from the supermarket, and it says not to be used by bf mothers, but doesnt say why, so iv looked on the internet, and it says because the affects havnt been established.
Do any other mums take hayfever tablets when bf-ing?
Would you if you were me?Please help because im in real agony here.
Thanks

I know Neoclarityn says specifically not to use it if you are BFing. I really don't know enough to answer you properly, but I think the BFN have a drugs helpline. this link might help

There is an excellent fact sheet here www.breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk/pdfs/Hayfever-and-allergy-treatment-and-breastfeeding.pdf

Nasal sprays are the safest. Most antihistimines DO affest bf.

i take benadryl and have done for the past 4 summers while breastfeeding. both my 2 seem to have suffered no side effects

Most antihistamines dry up your milk supply, and that's why they aren't suitable.

I've been BFing my 18 month from birth and I've taken an antihistimine a day for allergies during all that time with no ill effect on milk supply - sorry load of tosh. Breastfeeding network site will tell you that most antihistimines are safe - I've taken zirtek (cheap tesco equivalent) and its fine - talked to endless consultants about it and its okay really.
