Steam steriliser (Tommee Tippee) & using tall supermarket bottles

Hi there wonder if someone could help.

We currently have and use the Tommee Tippee plug in countertop steam steriliser and have been using the Tommee tippee bottles up until now, however, my week old baby isn’t getting on with them very well (weirdly she takes breast milk from them fine but formula seems to get stuck in there and she seems to be sucking for ages without getting anything) anyway, a midwife suggested trying the really cheap bottles from a supermarket - which we have done and they work perfectly, the teat fits her much better at this stage as she is quite small.

My question is, the supermarket bottles are too tall for the steriliser and wondered - do they HAVE to be stood up side down for the steam to fully sterilise them? Or can they be placed in sideways and the steam will still get in?

Any help appreciated!

Could they go in at an angle while still being upside down rather than on their side?

Hiya

It’s tricky as have to lean them up against something. Other option is to take the top tray out all together but just didn’t know if they even needed to be face down and it would work just fine with them laying on their side.

Everything I've read says they need to be upside down to let the steam get right into the bottle. I think the steam is created at the bottom of the steriliser and then rises into the inverted items
