Travelling abroad how to sterilise bottles

Hi, has anyone got any recommendations for travel bottle sterilisers, that are NOT the Milton cold water solution or tablets. Baby dislikes the taste and I cannot stand the smell either!

We do have some microwave bags and are hoping the hotel can get us a microwave to use but if not we need another plan. I’ve seen the Nuby portable UV steriliser though seems to only be sold direct from them so hard to get decent reviews. Also some plug in combination bottle warmer and sterilisers on Amazon but can’t be certain they’d work abroad with different voltage sockets.

For context, travelling abroad to Europe (Amsterdam) hoping to take ready to drink formula for a few days. May have to take powder formula depending on suitcase space.

Will the room have a kettle? We’ve had to do boiling water sterilisation a few times but admittedly using a pan of water / hob as we were self-catering. We’ll have the same issue in a few months so watching for good ideas as I was thinking Milton but hadn’t realised it would have a smell / taste!

I mean your options are hot water sterilisation (microwave, plug in steam steriliser, boiling water), chemical sterilisation (Milton) or uv sterilisation. There isn't anything else.

If you don't want to use Milton and can't rely on a microwave being available, I would buy a steam steriliser, you just plug them into the wall and add water and turn on.

It's funny how medical advices change over time. Nowadays, a simple brush, some dishwashing liquid and a bottle drainer do the job, especially in developed countries

How old is the baby. If it's over 6 months, you'll be alright with Fairy.

In NL, advice is to boil or use microwave bags. Milton isn't available. You might find the hotel can boil/microwave them for you if they have a kitchen because you won't be the first family to have stayed. Try emailing reception before you buy anything

I took my bottles in the sterilising microwave bags to the hotel kitchen and they did them for me

You said not Milton. We used Milton, a foldable bucket. The advice now has changed to rinse after using Milton tablets before using the bottle/items. You could rinse it with cold or boiling water after sterilising just to decrease that smell of it. A foldable bucket and 8 tablets is easy with travelling.

I was tempted with a travel sized uv carrier though. I didn’t in the end to save on cost.

We have travelled loads with our baby/toddler but we only stay in apartments/Air BnBs. I'd make sure to book something with a microwave and take one of those microwave sterilizer bags, they work well. Surely you'll need a place with a good sink and a kettle etc .

Standard hotel rooms just don't work very well as you need a slightly separate place for sleeping as well otherwise you'll just be sitting in the dark from 7pm every night.
