FF - When do you move to stage 2 milk?

Hi everyone.

DD (6 months) was BF til 5 months and is now on formula (although still getting a lovely snuggly BF in the mornings). She was always fed every 3 hours and although since moving to formula she is now sleeping through the night (hoorah!), during the day she is still feeding 3 hourly.

I'd like to know if i should try and get her to go four hourly by either distracting her for an extra hour (not relishing this thought) or moving on to stage 2 milk that would maybe sustain her appetite for longer? She is currently eating 2 meals a day too.

On average she'll have about 5oz in one sitting with the exception of food times, when she has around 3oz after her food. I make her up 6oz bottles but she rarely finishes them.

The reason i'm questioning this is because on the side of the box of milk it says that a 6 month old baby should be having around 8oz every 4 hours.

Any advice would be fab.

TIA!

Don't worry about what the box says.

It's really unlikely that anyone goes comfortably between drinking or eating anything for four hours all the time - I know I don't

Three-hourly is really very normal and usual and utterly fine.

Hunker is right - think if your baby was a toddler or pre-schooler and able to ask verbally for a drink (or a snack). You wouldn't refuse her because it had not been 4 hours since she last had something, I don't suppose!

Adults might well have a couple of cups of tea/coffee at breakfast, a couple more before lunch, then something with lunch, a couple more in the afternoon...etc etc.

We would think a nursery class that made the children do without a drink and/or snack all morning was being ridiculous.

A baby is less able to wait when feeling hungry or thirsty....

My wee one always had three hours between feeds, just go with it. I would hate someone to tell me I couldn't have a drink for four hours, I'd tell them to feck off!

I think the fact my dd had three hourly feeds helped her sleep through as she got the milk she needed during the day.
If you try and change her routine it could upset her sleep, not a good idea for your sanity lol.

OK that's brilliant, thanx for all your help. I shall carry on doing exactly what i'm doing!
