Mastitis query

Hi, I’m looking for advice about whether this could be mastitis or just a bad nights sleep.
For the past two days I have had a very sore right breast, I think during the night my baby latched incorrectly and it has left a little bruised red suction area on my breast next to nipple. It has been very tender, hurting through the day, but no lump, or heat coming from it.

He is sleeping terribly at the moment, and last night I think I got about three hours total. This morning I have woken up with body aches and brain zaps and generally feeling run down. Could this just be because of sleep deprivation or are these signs of mastitis despite no fever, or heat from my breast. Thanks for reading!

Could be a blocked duct, which is what can then lead to mastitis. Sometimes I get them where there is no lump but a localised pain.

I massage that area regularly, especially when feeding or in the shower, so that the blockage can get released.

Yes, call 111 as you need antibotics.

It just sounds like an injury to me. I had repeated breast infections and it was always related to cracked nipples. I would keep an eye on your temperature - don’t take antibiotics unless you really need them.

Check out @ olivialactationconsultant on Instagram she has a highlight for managing mastitis/blocked ducts. It could be inflammation, and could be nipped in the bud but with the run down side of it you might need antibiotics if you can't get to your GP try NHS 111, paracetamol and ibuprofen too in the meantime xx

I ended up with a blocked duct - she slept for a longer duration while I was doing block feeding to regulate my oversupply. It started as a bruised tender feeling between my breast and armpit. By the next morning I hardly had any milk and baby was frustrated. I took ibuprofen and tried to feed her on that side each time before the other side. It took 3 days to unblock, another 2-3 to get the milk back.

It could be mastitis, or you could have caught a cold/flu. Contact your gp and mention the symptoms.

Thank you everyone for replying. It developed into mastitis quite quickly so am on a course of antibiotics.
