I am 3 weeks post birth and really struggling with with my baby's latch during breastfeeding. I have asked advice from midwives/ lactation consultant and I really dont want to give up on it. At the moment i am trying a mix of breastfeeding and expressing. One midwife has suggestes nipple shields. Can anyone recommend which ones to buy?

My dd had success with the lansinoh ones. But have you actually had advice from the lactation consultant rather than a midwife as they’re really quite different things… and expressing then giving via bottle is only going to increase the latching issues for baby as nipples and tears are also very different. Please see if your nhs has a BF support team or if there is a breastfeeding cafe run by IBCLC trained workers. Or look up their “find support” for some advice.

I used the Medela ones. My tips is to have a few pairs so you always have a clean set ready to go! They absolutely saved our feeding journey - fed with shields for 5 months and then went onto feed another two years without them. Good luck!

I used the Medela ones, they seemed thinner than some others but just from what was available in Boots.

I combi fed DS and used shield for about 3 months and was able to lose the shields after that for the rest of our 18m of breastfeeding. He had no issues having 'a bit of both'.

Best of luck to you OP.

Thanks for the link. Yes I was worried about nipple confusion but also it was either expressed milk or hardly anything because he wouldn't stay on the breast for long enough / crying too much to latch on.
Thanks jill5676 and Clicheinaqashqai I'll have a look at those

I used Avent but it was a while ago. Definitely have a few for spares. Good luck!

I used the medela ones with my eldest, tried both sizes. They saved our attempt to bf and it was try that, with associated risks of confusion, or give up. My MIL is a breastfeeding expert and was in agreement they were the best thing to do at that point. We used them for a few weeks and I tried feeding without a few times until I could see my dd had it. I would also get to a breastfeeding cafe/support group if you can though so that someone can check for tongue tie. My third had that and needed it snipped.
