Dd is now almost 5 weeks old and I think I might be starting to enjoy bf. It was hell at first and I almost gave up several times (mastitis, feeding every hour, sore boobs, tired etc). I only persevered as I am competitive as hell and my friend had done 4 weeks before throwing in the towel.

Anyway, today I realised that I am actually quite enjoying it. Will this last? Am I likely to go through any rough patches in the next few weeks? Have I really got through the hardest part?

Well done

I found the first 6 weeks really difficult (sore nips, mastitis and thrush) then one day everything fell into place and it wasn't something to endure anymore. I loved it and never regretted persevering.

The most challanging times ahead could be growth spurts, but just go with the flow and feed whenever your dd wants it. It can be tough and tiring at the time, but it usually only lasts for a few days.

Any issues you may have in the future, post on here and you'll have loads of support xx

There may be difficulties ahead, but you are very likely indeed to have left the hardest part behind you - and any difficulties in the future are much less likely to derail you.

Well done! What a wonderful, cheering post.
(It was absolute bloody-mindedness tbh that got me through with ds1 - 3yo and still feeding )

Oh good, fingers crossed I'll still be doing it in a couple of months

yes there will be difficulties but IME not as hard as first few weeks..instead she will be distractable, will start nightfeeding again etc (or she may not!)

we've had our ups and downs - BUT i think quite simply, it is the most wonderful thing in the world. what can be more special than a mother nursing her child? ds is 9 months and comes off to smile, laugh, strokes my boob, hair. when hes upset it settles him. and its packed full of goodies. wonderful.

keep it up you're doing great!
