Worried about feeding amounts

I am a very anxious first time mum - babe is 12 days old. For the first week of life I was able to breastfeed and babe was very settled, little wind, no sick etc. Breastfeeding became very painful as latch possibly wasn’t correct. I am yet to attend a feeding support group as it’s so difficult to get out of the house for 10am. I started to express milk which is much less painful and my output is good (3 oz in about 20 minutes). However, baby seems to guzzle down 3 oz at a time, sometimes wants more. Health visitors, midwives etc etc says babe shouldn’t be taking more than 3 oz per feed at 2 weeks old. As a result, I’m extremely anxious that we’re overfeeding him. Did anyone else’s littlen feed more than 3 oz at a time at only 2 weeks old? I desperately need some reassurance.

Are you pace feeding? If so just give him what he wants and burp regularly and don't worry. But I'd contact your midwife and health visitor - they don't give the best breastfeeding advice but can at least come to you. Main thing that makes a difference is keeping baby's tummy touching yours - if they roll away slightly it really affects the latch in the early days and they slip off. You want baby basically like a belt. Best of luck, you've got this. There's also consultants who offer zoom consultations as well and the La Leche league are great too.

Whenever I try the pace feeding techniques I seem to make baby cough. As a result I’m scared to do bottle feeding and leave it to my husband as I don’t feel confident

Oh you poor thing, you sound so incredibly stressed. Please reach out to your HV, midwife or GP if you don't have those contacts - they can help. Babies cough and splutter and dribble all the time, it's all new to them. You just stop and let them settle and then go again when they are ready. One of my projectile vomited most feeds because she was an absolute piggy. There are so many scenarios which are fine and normal, but worrying when you first come across them.
