Washable vs Disposable breast pads

Which do you prefer? I am wondering whether to buy some washable.

I am using tommee tippee disposables and really like them. Can washables be the same? Which washables do you like?

I'm afraid (green guilt though) I only use disposables. but this is because I have suffered badly with thrush on and off while BF my 3 kids and it comes back when I use washables. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong when i wash them but am no longer prepared to take the risk.

see we suffer from that too, have had it twice in the 5 weeks she has been here.

Someone told me to wash at 60c.

Depending on, er, your flow, washables completely hopeless ime - and I thnk a fair few other MNers said the same on a recent BF thread. Massive leakage all round. Tommee Tippee got big thumbs up, as did the superior Boots version (the Ultra Slims).

Pidge · 28/05/2008 11:31

I found the washables weren't absorbent enough, particularly to start with. Even the disposables I had to be really fussy about! But as the leaking eased off I did use washables to some extent. I'm going to try harder with that this time round, especially having cracked the washable nappy thing last time!

Yeah, I use the tommee tippee ones but have also found the mothercare luxury (?) ones a good rip-off similar in design but cheaper

Cheap washables are OK but occassional leak.

Expensive washables are very good, I am trying to remember the make of my best cloth breastpads but currently failing.

Don't forget about Lilypads, the silicon option, which I like for night time no sleeping in bras and for swimming.

Essie3 · 28/05/2008 17:37

Yes, what's the general opinion on Lilypads? Before I invest unwisely!

babyOcho · 28/05/2008 20:19

i like lilypads, although i dont think that practical when out and about and feeding. they are ace at nightime.

i use lansinoh reusable, but they are bulky and sometimes get soaking wet, so when out and about i tend to use lansinoh disposable.

I used the washable ones for ages but suddenly realised that when I was wearing a top that was even remotely clingy I looked like I had enormous nipples. (It's the seam around the side that does it.) I became really really self concious. I was just using the standard Boots or Mothercare pack.

I went onto the disposables and they are tapered at the edges so didn't look anywhere near as bad. I found the absorbance of both ok for me.
