Shameless, aren't I?

Thank you, chaps. I love you all.

I think it's just the babycafe site being down, I tried my bookmark which I looked at days ago, that's down too

MarsLady · 28/05/2008 16:00

Children's Osteopathic Centre

I'll point HoochieMomma in your direction to talk about her experiences.

Perhaps you could pose the question on the blog: "I know people says it makes negligible difference but did you have to change your diet when breastfeeding?" or "Did you find that changing your own eating habits helped your breastfed child?" That sort of thing!

VictorianSqualor · 28/05/2008 16:09

Co-sleeping, don't know if your blog has anythign about it on there but it's the one thing I've talked about most with the ladies on my antepost natal thread WRT BFing.
I don't think anyone was given any advice on it whatsoever.
I have a few links on it if you want them , I don't know what info you have.

baby friendly leaflet in conjunction with FSIDS and UNICEF (I got this at hospital).

The policy baby friendly units are meant to adhere to wrt co-sleeping.

Science stuff from Dr.Sears research.

Sleep behaviour of mother and baby

hunkermunker · 28/05/2008 17:07

Marvellous - thank you very much, VS. Will add to blog later.

Yes DT1 is always the same one. She's the main instigator of all things in our home.

VictorianSqualor · 28/05/2008 17:12

Thrush, you definitely need something about thrush, I didn't even know it existed until I got it this time round (well not for the nipples anyway) and within days Scorpio had it too, and Bunnyrabbit, three people on theapril thread within days of each other, even MN took a long thread about my latch (Which I knew was perfect!) until I got to the reason my nipples were so sore.

great leaflet from the BfN about it and the ways to treat it, every doctor/mw seems to have different ideas on fixing it, and it kills! so needs fixing. Even I wanted to get the formula in when it was at it's worst!

hunkermunker · 28/05/2008 17:13

Oh, yes, have been meaning to do something on BFN Drugline too.

And mastitis.

I think I have started something about mastitis. I have several drafts on there - I need to actually finish some of them!

Growth spurts?
I know a lot of people seem to think it's written in stone that at exactly six weeks your baby will have a growth spurts, also, other people know nothing of them and think that baby feeding a lot means a problem.
Add the science bit behind it as well.

hunkermunker · 28/05/2008 18:01

Take over all you want! I like the ideas!

Yes, growth spurts a good one.

Thanks for all the comments yesterday.

I'd really like to know more about my e-shop idea - anything that you feel helped you to breastfeed (or anything that was a waste of money for you?)?

TIA

a breastfeeding cushion(washable covers)
nipple cream
pads

those are the things that help me the most.

What is a bf-ing necklace please?

sallyforth · 29/05/2008 11:03

Things I bought that helped me:

medela pump + spare parts
a sling (stretchy wrap)
breastfeeding tops/ breastfeeding nightclothes
fenugreek
nursing bras
uplifting feel-good films on dvd for the night feeds

I also bought a bf necklace but that was more of a treat for me than strictly useful -at 3mo DS still "plays the piano" on my breast while feeding, in preference to playing with the necklace. Still I do like my necklace and war it a lot anyway!

sallyforth · 29/05/2008 11:04

sorry that should read "wear" not "war"!

VictorianSqualor · 29/05/2008 12:02

muslins is about all I bought.

hunkermunker · 29/05/2008 12:06

Thanks for the ideas. A breastfeeding necklace is something you can wear that your baby can play with while s/he's nursing - long and strong enough that it doesn't pull on you or break if they tug.

How about slings?

OP posts:
VictorianSqualor · 29/05/2008 12:07

I have a freedom sling, apparently recommended for breastfeeding.
It's shit, so you need to make sure they are good for feeding

sallyforth · 29/05/2008 12:59

Agree freedom slings are shit. So are most of the things you could buy on a typical high street.

hunkermunker, ring slings are also good for bf in, esp in public (my ring sling has saved the day many a time in busy cafes) and there are loads of makes depending on your fabric preference. You can get girly fabrics, fleecy snuggly fabrics, strong fabrics so you can also carry toddlers if so inclined, and super lightweight fabrics for summer. And those with uv protection. My stretchy wrap was a hugabub from Australia but similar wraps are made in UK eg kari-me.

Pouches can be ideal for BF but ONLY if sized correctly.

There are recurrent threads on www.thebabywearer.com about which slings are good for bf.

hunkermunker · 29/05/2008 13:07

I think it depends what size your breasts and your baby are as to which sling is good for bf - my cousin fed in her Wilkinet, which I couldn't manage At All, but I did bf in my ring sling and Hug-a-bub.

Thanks for the babywearer tip - will have a browse!
