Follow on / Stage 2 formula

My LO is 6 months old. I switched to stage 2 formula for multiple reasons: increased iron, £1.50 cheaper per tin and stage 1 is often hard to get hold of in my local supermarkets whereas stage 2 is always available. I am aware of why stage 2 formula exists (and the marketing regulations etc).

On stage 1 my LO was drinking 6oz every 3.5hrs (4 bottles) and a 4oz dream feed. Since switching to stage 2 he’s drinking 4-5oz per feed (and going a little longer between feeds). I understand the protein is different in stage 2 and can keep babies fuller for longer as it takes longer to digest but Google says they shouldn’t actually be drinking less (although is still drinking the recommended amount on the back of the tin).

He’s also showing signs of teething and with the warmer weather, I’m trying to work out if he’s just off his milk or is it down to the formula?

Anyone find their LOs drink less of stage 2 compared to stage 1?

Have you introduced solids at around the same time @DippyDuck19and are you offering formula then solids roughly an hour later?

@BunnyRuddingtonyes have introduced solids few weeks ago (at 5.5 months). He’s been doing really well and swallowing quite a lot of food. I leave 1-2 hours between milk and solids to ensure he is hungry enough.

I wouldn’t worry too much about him refucing his milk feeds. He needs at 20 Floz a day for now. If he’s having less than that then you need to start giving a daily vitamin.

I think as long as you give a variety of foods, and he's bright and alert and meeting his milestones then you needn’t worry. Some babies will naturally start to reduce milk once food is introduced.
