Baby seems to be eating way too much!

I posted on here the other day that I was worried my baby wasn’t getting enough from breast feeding so resulted in top up bottles due to how hungry and demanding she is. Unfortunately even when I pump I am still only getting colostrum and not much at all so I just don’t feel comfortable to keep baby on just breast. Yesterday I even put her on each breast, 15 minutes at a time, then did both again and she was still hunting for food! We have decided to just bottle feed going forward because I just don’t think so can produce milk, this happened with my first born as well.

So, last night around 9pm my little girl fed from the breast as mentioned above 4 times, was still hungry and ended up having a 80ml bottle after! If I take the bottle away from her after the recommended 30/40ml she screams and is still so hungry! Her next feed was then at 1:30am this morning and she had no breast but a whole 110ml! If you take it away from her she absolutely screams and she isn’t satisfied and just keeps going. It’s currently 6:30am and she is still asleep, so rather than eating little and often which is what is expected, she is eating every 4-6 hours but larger amounts. Is this normal for a baby that is only 6 days old?! I was expecting to be feeding every 2-3 hours little and often. Just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this before. I am so worried of over feeding but she just cries and cries and hunts for food until she is satisfied. My first born I remember waking up 3/4 times in the night but this time round is totally different, it’s like she is already 3/4 months old!

Generally you cant over feed a new born
They don't take it or they'll sick it back up.

Its not a million miles off one of mine tbh - who is very healthy / robust

Talk to midwife or hv if concerned

If she's been having trouble getting milk she's probably quite hungry. The fact that she had a nice long sleep afterwards is great, she will probably have a big growth spurt but that's fine. Her body will work it out eventually.

Haven’t seen your other post so don’t know how old your baby is but might she be cluster feeding? Designed to increase your supply? Obviously if that’s the case then adding top up bottles sort of disrupts the process (but I don’t know anything about your BFing journey so that’s not advice to stop doing it). I was fortunate to have a pretty straightforward experience so although there were times my baby seemed to be feeding continuously, I was able to trust the process. He was always gaining weight well so I wasn’t concerned about how much milk he was getting.

is she gaining weight?

eta, sorry just seen she’s 6 days old 🙄

Yesterday I even put her on each breast, 15 minutes at a time, then did both again and she was still hunting for food! sounds fine for 6 days old!
Sounds like you'd benefit from speaking to a breastfeeding counsellor - local NCT breastfeeding or breastfeeding network or la leche league. Facts amd reassurance

Congratulations!

congratulations

If it's too much she'll just bring it back up. It maybe that she's not getting enough from the breast so is hungry.

But before you give up on your breastfeeding journey reach out for support. This is something I really regret not doing when I gave up at 6weeks and 3 months with mine. Saying that it was 20/25 years ago so not half as much support as there is now.
