Persistent mucus in breastfed baby stool *photos*

Hi all,
baby is 5 weeks old, and since they were around 2 weeks old, their poo changed from normal looking, to being full of mucus each time and runny.

we went to dr initially due to a lot of diarrhoea, and since then, poo has remained wet, runny and mucusy, with a few further occurrences of diarrhoea too.

im trialing dairy and soya free diet (have been for a week so far) with no improvement yet.

does anyone have any thoughts on if this may be CMPA or is mucus in every poo normal?

Is this your first baby??
I think this is just normal baby poo.. if you're breastfeeding you should also see little 'suds' in it..
This is a picture of my daughter's dirty nappy with a piece of tomato in it at 5.5 months (first solid thing she ate - went straight through her!)

It is yes!
He started off with the fat lumps in it and a more mustardy texture but now it is just completely liquid except for mucus so I’m not sure it’s quite right?

If this is the only symptom, then I really wouldn’t worry about it. DD1 had fairly significant CMPA and I was on a DF diet, but the mucousy poos never cleared up until she started solids. Mucousy stool doesn’t harm them and I wish I’d spent less time obsessing about it!

We never had any fat lumps - straight to grainy mustard poo - if baby is relatively settled and happy, and gaining weight I really wouldn't worry, it looks very normal to me!

My baby did poos just like this and I was so worried - no grains at all! Anyway at about 5 months they got a bit better and now she's on solids they look completely fine (and wow gross!)

Do you think I should just go back to eating dairy if the only issue is his poo? So hard to work out what to do!

Were your baby’s very mucusy too? Maybe I’ve been too dramatic, the dr just mentioned if it continued they’d suggest eliminating dairy!

Yes, really big blobs of it! So weird. And then it just suddenly improved 🤷🏼‍♀️

I think I would, though my DD did turn out to have a dairy intolerance that showed up when I started weaning her - my DN is very dairy intolerant and my DSis had to give up all dairy as he reacted v badly with eczema, disturbed sleep etc.
You could always reintroduce it and be ready to stop if there's an issue!

My baby had quite a severe dairy allergy and his symptoms were not just mucus poo. He was VERY unhappy, really in pain during and straight after a feed. He was visibly uncomfortable. And his reflux was off the charts. Vomiting all the time everywhere. So I wouldn't worry about CMPA.

Go back on the dairy, you want them exposed to it. Also, being dairy and soy free is extremely miserable in the long run. Don't do it unless you have to.

Those nappies wouldn't have worried me with my multiple allergy daughter. Hers were explosive and pure liquid and would move in the nappy. She also had severe silent reflux and was permanently unsettled
