Baby in a lot of pain due to gas - what could it be?

Hi all,
my baby seems to have a lot of gas which is causing him a lot of pain and discomfort and even stops him from feeding at times.

He is 4 months old and exclusively breastfed. I’ve taken him to the GP probably 4 times now and they keep saying it’s just one of those things that will get better when he’s weaning. But that’s still 2 months away and I can’t keep seeing him in this pain.

I tried Infacol, BiGaia drops, went dairy free for a month, been egg free for 2 months, tried caffeine free, and soy free as well. Nothing ever made a different. We also tried baby Gaviscon but he doesn’t have any reflux anymore and his skin is fine as well. Poos are irregular. Sometimes nothing for a few days and then the pain gets worse and after 3 days I have given him a GP prescribed laxative but he isn’t constipated as his poos are more like diarrhoea when he does poo.

I also do baby massages multiple times a day to help him release some gas.

I’m at a loss now as don’t know what else I can do to help him.

Our DS sometimes has really bad gas cramps. Doing a circuit of bicycle legs and lifting his knees to his chest normally helps get the farts out!

You may find tiger in the tree hold helpful and I cannot recommend a paediatric osteopath enough.

Thank you. We do bicycle legs and lifting knees but sometimes he seems in so much pain he will not let me do it and just goes very stiff.
i will look into seeing an osteopath. Another mum suggested that yesterday as well. Thank you!

Hold baby under the armpits so that baby is facing you.

Gently swing baby’s lower body to and from you so that the legs are handing freely and able to kick and move about.

This is the way my mother rocked ups to bring up wind (and fart) in the 1960s and how her mother winded her and her siblings in the 1940s!

I did it with mine in the 1990s and it works as a gentle release

Ashtin and Parsons powders are very good for soothing baby.

Reflux?

I'm having similar issues, although my DS is only a month old.

I've seen a lactation consultant today who advised trying Colief drops - which help to break down lactose in the milk - may be worth a try!

In desperation we also tried the Windi Gas Passer - I was apprehensive, hut DS didn't seem to mind at all, and it did help him pass wind, then have a huge poo - which he hadn't done in 2 days. He then slept contentedly for 4hrs - which is unheard of for him
