Possible feeding adversion?

My 2 month old. Sorry for the long one…
Since she was born she had a few feeding issues where she wasn’t drinking much at a time, by 2 weeks old she was on size 2 teats agreed by midwives (I was unsure about this but done it anyway), she seemed to drink more but started to become fussy/ gassy/ in discomfort with trapped wind. Carried on as normal with the size 2 teats and thought she may have colic/ reflux (midwife agreed on this also), so I tried gas drops- worked for getting wind up but she was still Grunty and still seemed in discomfort and fed little. Continued as normal with better days here and there. Then in the last two weeks she’s starting to completely refuse feeding, taking as little as 1oz at a time, so I had enough and decided the teats must be too fast for her, so I tried size 1. The first feed of this was perfect and she drained the bottle, but days after and up until now she’s been back to drinking less and feeding time takes a long time, night feeds are the worst where she’ll stop drinking after 1oz but wake up frequently due to hunger, and then the same situation happens at the next feed again, and what I’ve noticed is even a distraction as little as a cough will put her off.
I’m afraid I’ve given her a feeding adversion from the size 2 teats. So today I’ve researched all day long of how to fix this. I started with small but more frequent feeds and stopped at the first sign she was in discomfort, offered it back only once more then stopping the feed completely if she didn’t want it. So far so good and she took 4oz at last feed but obviously I keep asking myself is that enough for her for her age.
Or am I even misreading her feeding cues all together? But I feel like she could go a long time without a feed if this is the case.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Or has any tips for me to make her feeding experience a comfortable and satisfying one? Or Even some reassurance that the amount she’s having is enough. Thankfully, weight isn’t an issue and I can visually see her growth. Thanks! I used mam bottles & teats btw!

Thanks, My son was a milk monster so it’s different this time with my daughter 😅 thanks for the link! I have asked my health visitor and sadly it’s just always the same type of “professional advice” when it comes to feeding. I suppose I’d like more “everyday parent, personal experience” type advice - if that makes sense 😅

Which milk is she on @ggeorge?

ggeorge · 27/06/2025 20:16

She’s on cow&gate milk. Since posting this I decided to try a different bottle so I bought the lansinoh bottles and her latch seems so much better and she’s taking more milk. It’s around the 4oz mark and she seems satisfied with this amount but still feeds quite frequently. I’m sort of accepting the fact that this is normal for her now, but still worry if it’s enough 😖

Some babies do prefer smaller bottles and more often. The way to work out if she’s getting enough is that she’ll need roughly 2.5 Floz of formula per pound in weight. So if she’s say 11lb she’ll need roughly 27.5 Floz a day. Does that sound about right?

ggeorge · 27/06/2025 20:30

Right ok! She’s 10lbs so if I’ve worked that out right it would be 10 x 2.5oz = 25oz, she’s had 5 bottles so far today, & probably 1 more to go before bedtime so yeah I would say she’s having enough actually 😃 thank you!! I didn’t know that!
