Hipp Anti reflux - no weight gain

Help! My little baby is 11 weeks old and not gaining weight, he is in the 0.4 percentile!!
He has really awful reflux and cannot tolerate normal formula, so we have been using HiPP anti reflux since he was 3 weeks old. However, he does not stop pooing - 8/10 times a day, which I believe is causing him to not gain weight. I know thickened formulas do say it can increase stool frequency, but I really don’t know what to do! I tired again with normal formula today and it was horrendous. Has anyone else experienced this with HiPP and changed to another formula?

I really sympathise, reflux is absolutely awful. Have you been to your GP as we got omperazole which really helped as well as using gaviscon too. Reflux for us ended up being caused by CMPA and we got a hypoallergenic formula prescribed so might be worth considering too.

Sounds very like cmpa . You need to see your gp and ask for reflux meds and a dairy free formula like neocate

Sounds like cmpa to me

I agree with the others. I'd be asking for a trial of hypoallergenic formula. Be warned the first formulas are still dairy based but have the proteins partially broken down. This is enough for some babies to not recognise the proteins as dairy but some more sensitive babies need a formula that is completely dairy free. These are the amino acid formulas which as neocate and alfamino. The hypoallergenic formulas are quite thin so you might still need to thicken them or need reflux treatment alongside them as the thinness of the formula can trigger reflux

I agree, it sounds like CMPA.

Have a read of this from Allergy UK and see if any of the symptoms sound familiar.

Really though if he’s not gaining weight at all you to see the GP. Get them to record his weight in his Red Book as this will provide a baseline of you do get referred for slow growth Flowers

Cow’s Milk Allergy

Cow’s milk allergy is an abnormal response by the body’s immune system in which proteins in a food are recognised as a potential threat.

Thank you everyone. He does indeed have CMPA. Nutramigen worked straight away!!

Keep an eye. Bear in mind that nutramagin is hydrolysed milk protein NOT dairy free. A lot of babies have issues with it so if you do see symptoms return or build up over time then ask for a fully dairy free formula.
