Oxytocin spray for breastfeeding

I have used the oxytocin spray to help with let downs whilst feeding, sometimes a let down would take up to 10 minutes. I literally used it twice, I didn’t feel a let down whilst baby was feeding and she was getting fussy. but on the pump I could see more milk flowing out.

With the spray are you meant to feel a let down as you would naturally or does it just push milk out? Also how long does it stay in your system? I feel like I can’t get a natural let down now even though I only used it twice.

Please can someone advise how to use it properly. And what it’s meant to feel like

I haven’t heard of the spray before but some women dont get a let down each time. I can remember being concerned as I didn’t with DC1 but mentioned it at my local BFing support group and was reassured.

Also if you’re getting anxious over letdown it might stop it happening anyway Flowers

How are you getting on now @Anon7861? Flowers

Thanks for checking in, I stopped using the spray as I think it was causing a let down with no sensation whereas I’m used to having a let down sensation everytime my baby feeds . It really threw me off and made me so anxious. I actually was having full blown panic attacks.

my baby doesn’t take a bottle so it’s all on me and the pressure is a lot sometimes. Let downs have thankfully been ok since . Sometimes takes ages but it does come. Thank you for checking in 🫶🏼🙏🏼

I’m sorry that you’re getting really anxious @Anon7861? Do you have someone who could take the baby for a while so they you have a break?

I used to change DD and get her ready for bed, give her a really good feed with some breast compressions and then DH used to take her for a walk, she would nod off then sleep in the hall for a bit, we could see her though.

I had two bottle refusers too so you have my sympathy. How old is your baby? Will they drink from a cup?

She’s 7 months but we have had quite the journey, she had a tongue tie release at 14 weeks. Before the release it was just so rocky and we didn’t know what was wrong with her . It was a hidden tongue tie. She has a high palette which ultimately causes me to have a low supply even if I pump , take meds supplements. She also has quite severe reflux and is on meds. It’s been really tough, she is on solids now too which she is getting used to but not quite there yet.

she’s just started to drink from a straw but not milk. Will put milk in it tomorrow and see how she gets on, that will be a game changer for me 🙏🏼

thank you again for your concern, it does help to talk to others

If she won’t take a bottle, the straw is a good idea. I got mine to use an open cup by giving them a bit of Cow’s milk in an open cup in the bath. It’s not their main drink and a couple of ounces once or twice won’t be damaging.

The novelty for them used to it then we could give milk in the cup when they needed it.
