Switched from Cow & Gate 1 to 2

Has anyone noticed their baby waking up more at night and having softer poos after switching from Cow & Gate First Infant Milk to the Follow-On milk?

My 6 month old was sleeping well and had normal poos on the first milk. But since switching 3 weeks ago, he’s waking more at night and his poos are softer. I thought it might be teething, but it hasn’t changed.

I’m thinking about going back to Stage 1, but not sure if I should stick with Cow & Gate or try a different brand.

Has anyone been through this? What helped?

Thanks!

That seems unusual because about the only difference is the increased iron content of S2 which in theory would be more likely to constipate than the other way around. So it may be coincidence.

That being said, you can switch back to S1 no issue. I'm curious as to why you moved to S2 anyway, as this is is not necessary? S2 formulas only exist for companies to be able to get around advertising rules. Babies can stay on S1 formula until 12 months.

You should stay on stage 1 until 12 months anyway, so I’d switch back regardless.

I did for my son but only for readymade when out. For powder we went from mamia to hipp stage 2 at 6 months. Everyone says you can stay on stage 1 though so you could just do that. He’s two now so it was a while ago.

It’s fine to stay on stage 1 if you prefer but stage 2 is cheaper and isn’t exempt from promotions so I switched mine over, because why pay more for formula than you need to!
Stage 2 has more iron than stage 1 which would usually have the opposite effect on poos, but every baby is different. Could be a coincidence, could be teething if they’re swallowing more saliva, the most likely culprit is probably weaning if you’ve started, especially if baby is having fruit. There’s also a big growth spurt at 6 months so it’s normal baby to be hungrier and that may result in night wakes if they’re not eating enough in the daytime to keep them full.

Have you also started weaning onto solids?

I assume you started solids around the same time, so the softer poos might be related to that.

Yes, we did

I switched his formula mainly because he’s started weaning. Right now, he’s only having veggies and chicken, no fruit yet. He’s drinking 210ml every three hours during the day, and it seems to keep him full. I tried more but he won’t drink it all.
