Breastfeeding - how to know when you've finished a feed?

I've had some conflicting advice. My baby feeds for around 5-10 mins per breast. I was told that my baby must be efficient at getting my milk in this short time as he pulls away hinself. But my HV came and observed me feeding and said I need to keep putting him onto the breast over and over for around 15 - 20 mins a side to get the hind milk and to get longer stretches between feeds. (Baby is nearly 8 weeks)
She advised that once the flutter sucking starts to switch over to then other side, or finish feeding if I've fed from both.

Which is the best advice? I just want to know when a feed is classed as finished so my baby is getting enough. TY in advance x

@MabelFox I used to change the baby's nappy half way through a feed (after baby had fallen asleep or dropped off side 1) to wake up baby, and then they would feed again the other side. You might get a slightly longer stretch of sleep that way. You can also strip the baby down or put a damp flannel against their neck. All of these things will piss your baby off, but are pretty effective for keeping them awake to feed more.

Otherwise, if your baby is growing well, no need to change things unless it's not working for YOU. I find my baby generally wanted both sides at each feed but would occasionally just want to snack and fall straight to sleep/be calm again. Not all feeds are about hunger :)

I had a very speedy feeder, she was great and I had a fast let down so feeds rarely took longer than 15 minutes.
I just used to put her on one side and then at some point she would either fall asleep so wasn’t sucking properly or she would unlatch herself and I would pop her on the other side. She would usually spend a minute or two nursing on that side and would unlatch and that was when she was done. She didn’t lose weight after birth and followed the curve on the growth chart quite nicely (until maybe 4 months old when she slipped down a bit, but there were never any concerns).

Personally I think as long as they are growing well and you are ok with whatever is happening then there is no problem.
I should add- that baby fed every 1.5-2 hours in the day, but slept very well at night from about 7 or 8 weeks old. The frequency would have been bothersome if she had taken ages over each feed or if it had been around the clock. But as it was- mostly in the day- it was great for me.
