Low milk supply in mornings

Currently breasfeeding 9 wk old baby. He's a very lazy feeder and falls asleep constantly so have been expressing and giving in bottles as well as feeding directly from boob. My milk supply is constantly dropping and have noticed that the last few mornings have only been getting about 1 oz from each breast from 10pm the previous evening. Any ideas on increasing this? The quantity seems to increase throughout the day.

If i remember rightly the more you feed/express the more you should produce.
When i BF my DS i as always very full in the mornings but come evening i fely empty.

Are you making sure you are eating/drinking enought? Good luck

Hi miabl2.
It's rare that you'll get as much by expressing as by feeding from the breast as the baby takes the milk from the breast in a different way than by expressing so it could be that when he drinks from you, he's having more than you think.

To increase the milk, could you try getting him to take the milk from the breast more often and try expressing less - just to see if it increases your supply more. When you feed him,try keeping him awake and alert by taking off some layers of clothing and having the window open, just so that he's not too cosy and drops off before he finishes his feed.
How often does he feed at night?

Expressing is not an indication of supply, nor is it the best way to increase it.

If you're worried about supply, you need to put baby to the breast more often.
Your breasts could have enough to feed twenty babies in and still not express more than an ounce because they expressing machines create a totally different suction to the baby.

Try not to worry, have you tried making him feed, undressing him, giving him a nudge if he falls asleep, winding him etc?
I sometimes have to do this with DS.

He has a problem with wind and isn't that keen on feeding from the breast I don't know if its the angle he's at but he sometimes cries and fusses when you try and get him to feed. ditto when you wake him up and try and get him to take more. he just seems really lazy!! It's my second baby and had no probs at all with the first. I find it really odd that my worst time of day is first thing in the morning. I wake him at 10pm for a feed but its from the bottle as he's so sleepy and he usually wakes once more for a feed about 3 or 4 am. Again this is a bottle. I'm finding it difficult to spend long periods with him suckling as my 3 year old is losing patience with the time I'm spending feeding.

Don't worry about your 3 year old - put on a video for a while and let LO watch for a while - if you're stressed, your baby won't settle as easily.

If your DS is windy, try lying him gently over your knees before the feed (and during it if he seems windy) and gently rub his back to get up the wind.

Usually the breasts feel less full at night and fuller in the morning so if you decrease the bottle and increase the breast, it should really help.
