My right boob has always been my 'best' boob (everyone has a best boob don't they? ) but I think it's a bit much for ds at the mo. He's not quite 3 weeks old, so still getting the hang of things a bit. He's fine on crappy old left boob, but he chokes and splutters and faffs and struggles and cries on right super-boob. I think (a) it gets too full and he struggles to latch on, and (b) the let down is way too fast and chokes him.

Anything I can do about this? I know he'll get the hang soon enough, but in the mean time...?

I'd suggest single sided feeding or block feeding as it's sometimes called.

In any 3 hour period you basically feed from one side (so 1-4 you feed on the left; 4-7 on the right etc...)

This should sort and even out your oversupply issues on one side, I should think. Oversupply can be evened out this way in a couple of days

I had this problem and switched to one-sided feeding -- 15 months later and DS still only feeds from one boob at a time.

Hi I too had one big boob! Also my right! Didn't have the problem you have, but thought you could try expressing off the extra milk and let him feed after that. Bit of an effort I know but might help? Any spare milk you could freeze or donate? Good luck and keep at it

I think it's pretty common to have a best boob - I found my left best because I am right-handed so latching onto the left was easiest. Although, weirdly, now I think about it, my right is better these days....

I digress! You could try hand expressing a bit before feeding to soften it and reduce the flow rate a little. And (one track record alert...) make sure he doesn't have a tongue tie. HTH.

you could express but that would probably only continue to create an oversupply.

You need to block feed - feed him from 'super-boob' (i've got one of those too ) for say 2 hours i.e if he need 1 or 2 or 3 feeds within a 2 hour period, feed him ONLY from superboob, then for the next 2 hours feed him only from crappy boob - this sort of damps down the supply to your boobs so it's not overwhelming the little chap! TBH block feeding helped, but the best thing was just time - my ds was about 10 weeks before he really adapted to fast letdown and my oversupply sorted itself out as my supply established to his needs. HTH

I had the super boob problem too - block feeding definately sorted it out. Had to do it for about 4 or 5 days though before it all calmed down.

Wouldn't bother expressing as I think this just stimulates supply

Block feeding it is then.
Thank you all.
I'll let you know how I get on.
