Had problems last time I think due to flat nipples - do I need to prepare them this time?

Last time DS didn't latch for a week, even then it was only after pumping (ie. making my nipples stick out more) and the MW said after he was born (and didn't latch) that it was because I have flat nipples. Eventually it was fine, but do I need to prepare them this time round? Last time I found these nipples sucky things for doing it, but it said you have to do it in pregnancy - should I be doing that? Thanks

I used those things in pregnancy with ds but still had to pump for the first few weeks to get him to latch on. Dd is 2 1/2 weeks old and latched a few minutes after she was born and has had no problems since. She even managed to latch on when my milk came in, boobs were like bowling balls and nipples virtually disappeared. I think it depends how strong a suck your baby has rather than how sticky out the nipples iykwim

I have very flat nipples and DD1 had a pretty hard time latching on - lots of frustration with it taking 2+ hrs to latch her on at the start.

However, DD2 has a much stronger suck and the nipples have remained a bit more drawn out from the first time around. She has a few occasional problems getting on, but has generally been 1000 times better.
