Hi folks just looking for some guidance or advice, my baby is 12 weeks old exactly & is currently on Aptimel pepti 1. when she was born she suffered with choking alot of phlegm, mucus then after 4 weeks still getting sick constantly thick bits of bottle and constipated for a week, we switched her to aptimel comfort & it worked for two days then she started getting rashes like an allergy reaction & only took half bottles no consistency, since the switch she has being so much happier, pooe’s normally , takes bottle consistently no more rash (bar a touch of dry eczema on the elbows). however i’m unsure how long she can stay on this? do i wean normal aptimel back into her diet slowly? will this effect her when she starts trying food also. no official diagnosis of CMPA or allergy but the swap did make things better so bit unsure how to go about things now. maybe she couldn’t handle how thick the aptimel was when she was born? she can still gets sick quite a bit after her bottles now we hold her upright for 30-40 mins after every bottle if not she gets extreme hard stomach & cramps. i’ve no interest in speaking to a GP id get more help from a dog so just any advice or guidance is appreciated!!

The hypoallergenic formulas are quite thin which is the cause of the reflux. Lots of babies on these also get a prescription for Gaviscon or omeprazole if Gaviscon doesn't work.

Sounds like your baby does have CMPA in which case you can't just put them back on normal formula, it will make them sick again. And it takes weeks for their gut to heal once you go back on hypoallergenic formula.

My baby has CMPA but is breastfed so I can't help much more except to say you do need help from a medical professional. When weaning, there is a way to introduce dairy as well, gradually, start with baked in milk and progress to things like yogurt if that goes well. My baby is 8 months and totally failed the dairy allergy, even baked in milk so I can't remember the next steps exactly.

There are some helpful Facebook groups for CMPA babies.

CMPA is super common so your GP might be more helpful than you think and they can also refer you to a dietitian.
