Cancel plans ahead of frenulotomy?

My son (9 weeks) has his frenulolmy tomorrow (Friday) afternoon. We are having friends stay at the weekend to meet him.

should I cancel these plans? I really don’t want to but what has been everyone’s experience of fussiness/re learning to feed following the procedure?

Is this tongue tie cutting? If so baby will probably be fine after about 10 seconds.

DD was younger when she had hers. She wouldn’t have needed us to cancel our plans in terms of fussiness, but you may not feel comfortable feeding - depends on the friends really! I have some friends who happily sat with me in the depths of mastitis with horrible swollen boobs swinging around, and others who I wouldn’t have felt comfortable around whilst I was struggling to establish feeding.

Yes it is. That’s reassuring, I have heard I might expect fussiness up to 48 hours after, I’m thinking if it becomes like an ulcer that’s got to be painful. Also worried feeding might be tricky (pessimistic view I know considering the procedure is to improve it)

If they’re good friends then go for it!

If they’re the sort of friends you need to panic clean before, and aren’t that close to, then it’s a perfect excuse! Works either way, I reckon.

Mine had hers at 7ish weeks and honestly I don’t think anyone but me would have noticed. She was a bit needier but then babies that age change daily anyway. Don’t cancel the plans.

My boy was fine straight away after. Feeding also improved immediately.
He had it done at 10 days old though.

My dd was younger but she was fine after about a minute. It made feeding much easier too. Hope it goes ok.

We went on holiday (in the UK) straight after my youngest was snipped. It was all fine.

Babycatsmummy · 10/04/2025 12:52

Mine was 6 weeks old when he had his. Cried for 10 seconds then was absolutely fine after. No fussiness and finally latched onto my breast correctly too.
I know every experience is different but hopefully this will will reassure you x

Same for me - was feeding a lot better straight after the procedure, and I can’t remember any fussiness afterwards. How / where is it being done? Ours (17 years ago) was a group session in the same room, and a place in the corner where it was being done, one at a time. The babies were all a few weeks old. I only ask because everyone else had their partners there with them, and mine was working so didn’t come, and I found it upsetting (I was emotional anyway), and would have benefitted from the moral support - so if you can have someone with you for support then I would definitely do that. Good luck..
