Easiest way to prep formula at night

I will be giving birth soon and I will be exclusively formula feeding.

What is the easiest way to prep formula at night time so that we wont have to get out of bed to go downstairs and boil the kettle etc?Happy to be recommended any gadget etc. I was thinking about getting the perfect prep machine on my bedside table but I understand a few people have said they don’t heat the bottle up enough.

Thank you

I heat water and keep it in a flask, I have one that keeps it above 85 degrees for up to 6 hours. I also measure the right amount of formula and then I just need to pour the water, add formula and place the bottle in a bowl of water for cooling down.

Perfect prep in the bedroom for nights and one downstairs for during the day.

I combination fed two and formula fed two. Never had an issue with perfect prep. As long as you keep it clean and change the filter.

that said the pre-made bottles are handy for those early nights. Also for when out and about.

Thank you!

@harijes re the ready made bottles, did you heat them or serve at room temp?

@Parker231 helpful thank you. Out of curiosity, how did you prep your bottles when you went out?

My babies all took them at room temperature

I used a thermos flask with a temperature display to keep the boiled water hot, and then pre measured cooled boiled water into bottles (I worked out the ratio of cooled water to hot water that made it drinking temperature). When doing a bottle, I would pour the flask water into an empty bottle to the ratiod amount needed, then add formula that I'd pre measured and mix it up well before transferring it to the bottle with the pre measured cool water. It would then be the correct temp to feed but making sure the formula had been fully mixed with sufficiently hot water first. It did generate a lot of washing up though, lol.

I used the ready made bottles at night. Just screwed the teet on

Perfect prep - we have one upstairs and one downstairs and just regularly check the temperature with a thermometer and maintain to the instructions

GeekyDiva80 · 30/03/2025 21:32

We boil the kettle over night, and in the morning turn it on until the water gas become warm which then goes into a flask to last for 6 or 7 feeds. My baby has her last feed at 8pm and only feeds again at 7.30ish in the morning again.

Another for ready to feed. Yes, more expensive and likely to waste quite a bit at the beginning, but a small price to pay to avoid getting out of bed.
I found ready to feed helped keep DD regular too and less wind/colic because no air bubbles in it like freshly made bottles. The perfect prep was the devil for DD’s reflux so we had to get rid of it quite early on.

Nuby rapid cool was a life saver

Perfect prep upstairs or the little ready to feed bottles. One thing I used to do (but I have NO idea if safe) was that I’d make up
a fresh bottle when I went to bed and then Bu the time DD woke it would be at room temperature (around 2 hours later) she never got sick.

cindylou25 · 01/04/2025 19:16

I use the hotshot method: boiled water in a thermos flask and cooled boiled water in a bottle. I also keep ready made bottles that come with sterilised teats, along with my tommee tippee electric bottle warmer

Same. You can also make one up and stick in a bottle warmer bag, although they do tend to keep them really hot so you could let them cool a bit first.
