10 week baby sleeps through the night

LifesQuestions · 20/03/2025 04:18

From 8 weeks, there has been a few days where my baby has her last feed at 8pm and doesn't wake up until 3/4am for next feed, is this ok? Note that she is gaining steadily on the 0.4 percentile.

I think this is absolutely fine

mumonthehill · 20/03/2025 05:47

Yes it is fine ds was like this. It will only be an issue if not gaining weight.

researchers3 · 20/03/2025 05:51

Yep fine. Enjoy while it lasts! Regression to more broken nights at around 4 months is very common!

DeskJotter · 20/03/2025 05:54

Yes, that's normal for bottle fed babies. Both of mine were the same.

LifesQuestions · 20/03/2025 06:15

She's not bottle fed, she's breastfed

PiastriThePastry · 20/03/2025 06:16

It’s fine, as long as she’s gaining weight as expected. My boy was the same, breastfed too, and it was fantastic. All went to shit for a while once he hit four months but y’know, take the rough with the smooth and all that.

dairydebris · 20/03/2025 06:21

At 0.4 on the percentile chart I'd probably attempt a dream feed in the early hours tbh. A feed at that time is also really good for milk supply if you want to continue breastfeeding.

IButtleSir · 20/03/2025 06:59

I know this probably isn't the answer you want, but my baby was also on the 0.4th centile at birth, and I would wake her in the night for feeds until she had made accelerated weight gain (I think I stopped when she reached the 9th centile).

Okdaisy · 20/03/2025 07:03

Enjoy the sleep! As long as they're following their centile you don't need to wake them. Mine too slept well until 4 months and still doesn't sleep through a year later.. so enjoy the sleep while you can!

Rocknrollstar · 20/03/2025 07:04

Leave a sleeping baby to sleep. If she was hungry she would wake up. She’s obviously getting all she needs during the day.

butterdish93 · 20/03/2025 07:12

My breast fed baby never woke up in the night time. She gained lots of weight. In fact she was of the scale huge. I just enjoyed the sleep and quiet.

Sofiewoo · 20/03/2025 07:15

I always find it funny what people class as sleeping though the night! 8pm-3am would not be that to me!

Either way, what’s your question? It’s obviously fine? You don’t have to wake babies regularly when they are a months old.

How long did it take before your baby reached the 9th percentile? My baby was born on the 9th percentile but dropped to the 0.4th percentile. Whilst she's growing now, I'm struggling to get her back up to 9th percentile

I've just checked the trusty Red Book and I'd misremembered slightly- she was on the 0.4th centile at birth, was up to the 2nd centile by 6 weeks (that was when I stopped waking her for feeds in the night) but didn't reach the 9th centile until 6 months. She's now two and on the 50th centile!

In your position, I'd wake for night feeds until she hits the 2nd centile. I also wouldn't let her go longer than three hours without a feed in the day (which you may already be doing).

Jk987 · 20/03/2025 15:54

Sounds amazing! Try and get an early night yourself and bank some sleep!

its2025 · 20/03/2025 15:57

My first baby (who is now 20) slept through from about 3/4 weeks and I mean probably 10 pm til 7am.
I remember speaking to a Dr at one of the early baby check ups and I was panicking that she slept and "missing" a feed. The Dr told me not to worry - if she needed a feed - she'd wake. Honestly as long as she is gaining weight try not to worry. You baby will go through periods of growth spurts and she may well start waking in the night for a feed when she needs it.

Bobbybobbins · 20/03/2025 16:02

I think on that percentile I would do a dream feed.

summertension · 20/03/2025 16:21

As the mother of a seven week old who doesn’t sleep for more than 2hrs i would like to trade places please and thanks

Redfred00 · 20/03/2025 16:26

On your DCs percentile I would dream feed at least once before you go to bed. If you wake up in the night for a wee I'd dream feed again.

MajorCarolDanvers · 20/03/2025 16:31

Both of mine slept through from 6 weeks.

enjoy it. It’s fine.

but keep quiet about it at baby groups or people will hate you 🤣

justasking111 · 20/03/2025 16:42

Mine slept through at six weeks. God my boobs hurt. He was fine, aged 44 he's in bed at 10 up at 6 for the gym. You've a Duracell bunny in the making up in the day, sleeping through.

@LifesQuestions i know this is an old thread but was just wondering did your baby continue to sleep through the night and did they remain on the 0.4 percentile? I have a baby just below the 0.4 percentile who will sometimes sleep through although I have been waking her after 5hr due to her low weight. Just wondering how you got on in a similar situation.

@wishIwasonholiday10no she did not continue to sleep through the night. She's now 13 months old so she's been through many phases since then lol.

She most often wakes up once in the night and she does also occasionally sleep through the night. Note that until she turned six months I woke her up for feeds in the night if she didn't wake up herself so she may have gotten used to it and went back to waking up herself.

She remained on the 0.4 percentile until I started weaning her at six months and she gradually went up to higher percentiles. She is now growing on the higher end of the 9th percentile which is what she was born on.

Thanks for the response! Did you continue waking during the night on medical advice or just because you thought it was the right thing for her? Did you wake after a set interval? I keep getting told different things by different people and am never quite sure what to do eg health visitor says to wake after 3-4 hr and the paediatrician said 5hr was OK and acknowledged I need sleep too. Obviously sometimes she wakes sooner anyway.

LifesQuestions · 15/02/2026 21:23

@wishIwasonholiday10 I continued to wake her because the health visitor advised to. I personally found it tough to wake her up more than once in the night so I took advice from someone on this thread and would wake her up for a dreamfeed before I go to bed which would usually be around 11pm and then wake her up again for a feed around 3:30am or 4am if she hasn't woken up herself. Try not to feel guilty if there are nights you sleep through, you are only human and I did that myself many times and found she woke up herself by 5am for a feed anyway. Because she was a good sleeper at night, I made up for it during the day by feeding her at least every 2-2.5 hours, I would never go past 3 hours.
