My baby wants bottles after spoon feeding

So I’ve started spoon feeding my baby the last few weeks and she eats a lot like maybe a full Ella kitchen smoothie but even after eating that she still wants a bottle of milk ? Anyone any recommendations?, Like maybe the Ella kitchen aren’t filling her enough I don’t want to give her too much of the smoothies , should I try her with something more filling , has this happened with anyone else’s babies ?

It's not clear from your OP what age your baby is.

If your DD is enjoying smoothies, is she ready for more robust food? You could offer her some bits of banana or rice cereal mixed with milk or formula?
Or does the smoothie make her thirsty and she might like a drink of water?

Not clear on age but fairly normal to want food then milk top up between 6-12m.

enjoy the pouches while you can my 12m old will barely touch a pouch now they want “real” food (ie substantial food) and the pouches get a flap of the arms and a squawk of protest

I would say Ella’s pouches / aldis version etc in general are not very calorie dense so they aren’t that filling like 30-50cals per 100g I think?
i personally like about 80- 110cal per 100g and make my own “mush”. I use the NUK freezer cube tray thing… it’s green. It makes it very easy.
I make up to 12-15 meals in one go (eg pasta, meat, olive oil and veg sauce then blend) and then it’s just there in the freezer ready to be reheated

She’s just 4 months she’s been spoon feeding awhile as she’s reflux sorry I forgot to add

That's normal. At that age, they should still be having their regular bottles also.

Greygggg · 07/03/2025 22:16

Is it ? I was wondering because she could have a Ella’s pouche and then she would want her bottle right after

4 months is very young to be having food, I'd give milk first anyway and then you can give her some tastes of food if you want.

Trallia · 07/03/2025 22:17

Those purree pouches are mostly water - your baby will still need her milk to get enough calories.

4 months is early for weaning - wouldn't be starting on anything lumpy yet.

littleluncheon · 07/03/2025 22:18

Instead of the pouches I would try mashing some banana or sweet potato.

TheBirdintheCave · 07/03/2025 22:19

At four months? Definitely normal. My daughter is nine months and still drinks six 240ml bottles a day on top of her solids. Weaning doesn't mean that you cut the bottles entirely :)

CheeseWisely · 07/03/2025 22:19

Our DS is 9 months and has been weaning since 6 months. It's only been in the last 2 or 3 weeks that I've noticed a drop in how much milk he wants alongside the food. I'd just keep giving as much milk as she wants for the time being, she'll let you know when she doesn't want it any more.

TheBirdintheCave · 07/03/2025 22:20

*Five, not six, apologies I sleepily miscounted 😅

BellissimoGecko · 07/03/2025 23:12

Why are you warning her at four months? Guidance says six months. Have you talked to your hv about it?

Up to one, food is for fun - milk is the most important source of nutrients. See www.nhs.uk/conditions/baby/weaning-and-feeding/babys-first-solid-foods/#:~:text=When%20to%20start%20introducing%20solid,to%20the%20idea%20of%20eating.

BellissimoGecko · 07/03/2025 23:12

*weaning

Printedword · 07/03/2025 23:19

Old school weaning was a bowl of purée then a bottle or BF when they are 6-8 months. I don't think even now anyone expects their DC to drop any milk feeds before 8 months at the absolute minimum.

Pouches are better as on the go food, if you are at home encourage finger foods and or purée.

Printedword · 07/03/2025 23:22

On second thoughts - weaning at 4 months. Is this a made up thread ?

dementedpixie · 07/03/2025 23:22

How can you have been weaning for a few weeks if your baby is only 4 months old? 6 months is the recommended weaning age.

Food should not be replacing milk as milk is much more important at that age.

LivingLaVidaBabyShower · 08/03/2025 07:27

4months?!?
my son had terrible cmpa so I get it but milk should be her primary food source.
also mash bananas and give her mashed avocado if it’s to do with weight gain.
like I said Ella’s pouches are not that filling or calorie dense.

Most importantly Keep giving her as much milk as she wants. Do not restrict milk at all. She should be on 6 bottles or so a day.

my cmpa son dropped his milk slower as he needed the extra cal due to dropping centiles when small.
