Allergy? Sudden change in poop

Hi there

My baby has always been breastfed, and since January 21 has been combi fed with normal Aptimil. Was pooing once a day, normal consistency and colour.

She had her vaccines about 2.5 weeks ago and three days later started pooing after every feed and very watery. The consistency has improved, but is still frequently going several times a day. We've also noticed mucus occasionally, and once green mucus. I've attached some pictures (sorry) - one of the green mucus and one of what most of the poos look like.

She's 11 weeks old. I'm just wondering if this could be an allergy. The fact I've never limited dairy and she's been on formula for a couple of weeks before this started makes me think it's not milk? I had assumed it was the rotavirus vaccine but this was a while ago now. Health visitor was useless and gp doesn't have an appt for a few days.

She's alert, lots of wet nappies, no sign of dehydration, no rashes and only occasionally seems uncomfortable just before a big burp! She was very slow to gain weight, but is doing well since we introduced formula.

IME I would call that an allergy poop. Looks exactly like my daughters. Non-Ige CMPA can take a while to build in the body before showing a reaction. I would visit GP or contact your health visitor and ask to be referred to the dietician who were the most helpful with us!

Sorting just read your comments about the health visitor and GP- keep pushing and demand to be seen by paediatrician

@lilyflower1803 thanks for your reply. Does that mean other symptoms are likely to follow? We're in the process of giving up breast feeding as weight gain was so poor it's Harvey affected my mental health but worried formula will just make her really ill?

Rotovirus vaccination?

Keggles36 · 18/02/2025 21:09

@Bert2e yes, it's a live oral vaccine passed in the stool. I assumed it was what caused the frequent watery stools but now it's been 2.5 weeks.

Hiya, not necessarily, my daughter went months with stools like this as she had them from the start and I thought it was normal (and was never told otherwise!) ! By about 3/4 months old she started getting a bit of blood in her poo.

I was EBF and had to cut out dairy and I tried her on lots of different milks. There's lots of choice out there so don't worry about the breastfeeding side of it, you have to do what's best for you.

On my other side though, I do know rotavirus vaccine can affect tummies, you could give it a couple more weeks if she's not showing signs of discomfort. Always worth a chat with the GP though
