Hey all my son was diagnosed with a cows milk protein allergy at around 7 months old hes now 14 months, he doesn’t eat any food other than oat milk and weetabix and fruit pouches so we have struggled with being able to do the milk ladder.. my health visitor isn’t much help, his grandparent gave him a spoon of a baby jar of egg custard as she was feeding her other grandson not thinking and so far he hasn’t experienced any diarrhoea but he farting like theres no tomorrow very long loud ones! Would you say this is a reaction to the ‘allergy’ or because its something hes never had before? He won’t eat fingers foods so i’ve not been able to try anything so this is a first with dairy in.. thanks for reading

Yes could be a reaction. Often one off exposures are tolerated better than the ladder.
I would hold off the ladder until there's a better range of food in their diet. My daughter was slow to wean and barely ate at 13 months we did the milk ladder for the first time at 17 months she failed on a single piece of biscuit the grain of rice and screamed for 2 days. We didn't try again until she was 3 when she didn't react until she was having a piece the size of a grain of rice every other day.

Exposures to foods she reacts to sends her off food so we don't test when she's already off food. It means we don't test foods that often but she still seems very sensitive we try foods every few months but usually don't repeat the same food more than once a yesr. She's 4 now and still reacts to small amounts of food but handles accidents better than she used to. Smelly wind rather than loose stools.

I think the trumping could be a reaction too.

His limited food intake could be because he distrusts new foods due to the pain that he's experienced with new foods previously or it could be an early sign of ARFID. Difficult to tell at this stage.

Just remembered that my first was slow to wean and accept finger foods or anything other than smooth purées but with them it turned out to be Tongue Tie.

Does your LO have any of these symptoms?

If he's not currently chewing food, it's probably worth doing this quick speech & language progress checker too, just to check that he's on track with that Wink

Hi thankyou for responding, hes been put on the pathway to be diagnosed with autism but due to his age it will have to go to a panel before any support is offered.. so i am assuming at this point he has abit of a fear with foods but also sensory, as with his weetabix he will eat them but then will get his hand in his mouth to pick bits out so i think its going to be a case of just wait and see with him x

I did often wonder if he had a tongue tie but he is being put on the pathway to be diagnosed with autism but before any support is given, its got to go through a panel due to his age so i think alot of his issues could be sensory but who knows! Its going to be a slow process x
