Do they have a temperature at all? Or look/sound unwell? I would be taking them to out of hours if this is unusual behaviour. Have you given calpol? When was the last time they fed? Will they settle in a carrier?

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 22/01/2025 21:22

First off take a breath. Take several. If this has been going on a while your nerves will be fried.

Strip baby off and check over head to toe (literally) look for hair tourniquets, check temperature. When did they last feed and are they still having wet nappies? Give calpol to see if its pain and if settle.

If doesn't settle soon just take them to be checked out. They will be used to it. They're so little and can't tell us what's wrong. Take a video before you go as 100000% they will perk up and be happy once you're there so you can show them.

Also if it's lots of high crying, it's totally fine to put some earplugs or headphones in to dull the noise a bit if that makes it easier to cope. Just don't put full sound block on so you can still hear enough to tell if trouble breathing.

If you have ruled out illness I think she sounds overtired.
Any tiny thing can stimulate her.
Hold her really close and tight to you. Don't rock too much. Go into a really dark quiet room - even voices will distract her.
Listen to her cries - if she's tired she will cry down with increasing breaks in her cries.
Don't stimulate her at all.

Put baby in a sling or pram and roll around for about thre hours so she can stop crying and have at least 180min of sleep.
It is too tired.
Try to feed after.

Also, I cannot stress this more - baby may have very painful teeth going out. Give some calpol before you go out.
Babies cannot talk about pain and it is easy to mistake it for something else.

Thank you all, my husband has finally managed to get baby to sleep (whilst being held and still being held). Baby has slept for around 1.5 hours with breaks of crying in between but been settled by my husband standing up and walking.
Baby still crying in sleep though, although normally does this I assumed wind etc? But seems to be doing more so today.
Baby is having wet nappies, feels very hot but I checked temperature this morning and it was OK.

Thank you all for the quick responses!

Is baby formula fed?

SecondBanana · 22/01/2025 23:19

I think I’d call 111 for advice if baby continues to wake and cry so frequently

ronconcoke · 22/01/2025 23:28

I'd also take temp again as you said you took it this morning(?!) but baby feels very hot now?

ThisIsAHoldUp · 22/01/2025 23:28

Definitely check their temp again if you haven't done so since this morning? Good luck, hope you all get some sleep.

Mooosewoman · 22/01/2025 23:30

Sounds like your baby is sick, especially as they aren’t feeding. Get some proper medical advice.

ThisIsAHoldUp · 22/01/2025 23:34

Just to add, from your description of how they are behaving I'd actually expect them to have a temperature or be poorly. I agree with the other posters who are saying call 111.

amispeakingintongues · 22/01/2025 23:39

Baby sounds sick. Call 111

RedRobyn2021 · 23/01/2025 06:10

How is your baby OP?

How is your baby OP?

Thank you for asking, I think baby was suffering from a cold / blocked nose and that was contributing to finding it difficult to feed as well as sleep, baby was over tired and hungry which led to a very difficult few days!
