Bottle to cup - how to, when to, why to?!

Lo is 9 months, has 3 ff a day from bottles. Am aware that at some point we need to move on to cups.

So when do we do this and how? We try using a doidy and a tommee tippee for water during the day but neither are very successful, she pushes them away so am concerned that trying to get her to drink milk out of a cup will be a problem.

What beakers have other people used and which feeds do you change over first and at what age?

Thanks

Hi Scubes, We found the easiest cup for dd to drink from is the bog standard tommy tippee approx £2-£3. Tesco sell them. Some of the cups are very hard to drink from and they need a lot of suck to get anything out from them! If in doubt try them yourself, first. It does take them a little while to get the hang of drinking from a cup and dd was not keen on water to begin with. She would hardly drink any to start with, and also i am not sure how much water they actually need if they are still drinking milk feeds. She is now 2 and drinks really well from proper cups, but refuses to drink her milk from a cup and still has a bottle. We have tried every trick in the book but she still wants her bottle at bed time. Its a comfort thing i think. I was quite worried at first but some of her friends are just the same, and still have a bottle to go to bed on. Perhaps try a morning feed and see how you get on. Dont worry if lo refuses, just try again another time. 9 months is still quite early i think , so try not to worry, and maybe some others mums will have some advice for you, best of luck

My son is 10 months and I have been wondering the same thing. The only beaker he will is the standard tommee tippee one for water, and drinks really well from it. I offered it at meal times, just left it on the highchair and he started to play with it, and then drink, I just left it up to him as they don't really need it yet.

However I have tried several times to get him to have formula from it and he pushes it away, and won't even entertain it, so am also looking for some advice on that??

sippy cups aren't really any better than bottles my dentist said. the only ones he recommends are the doidy (not really a sippy cup) and the avent magic one.
