Aptamil Pepti 1 & Omeprazole - help!

Hi! My LO (8 weeks) has been diagnosed with CMPA and reflux, we are on Apatmil Pepti 1 and Omeprazole… Does anybody have any experience of these two together? My LO seems to be having yellow stools, mucus/watery and containing undigested milk since starting the Omeprazole 3 days after starting Apatmil. She appears more unsettled on day 1 of the Omeprazole - does anybody else have any similar experiences? Trying to understand if the Omeprazole is worth it for her. Her reflux symptoms are being a little squirmy after a feed, spitting up (not massive amounts), hiccups, coughing and she is very congested (literally as if she has a cold but she doesn't). She hasn’t been much of a crier with it at all, but she seems to be crying more since giving the Omeprazole. We gave her the first dose of Omeprazole this morning and an hour later she had a small rash on her forehead - the same looking rash she had linked to hers CMPA. Any advice of experiences would be really welcome. 🙏 she seems to be ok on the Aptamil Pepti 1 thus far, but she’s only been on it 5 days - would it be noticeable if she wasn’t suited with it by now? Thank you to anybody who comments, first time mum here so appreciate anything you guys can share.

With omperazole it can make it worse before it gets better. It works by lowering the amount of acid the body produces but at first the body tries to counter this by increasing the amount of acid it produces. My daughter only responds to the highest doses of omperazole. The starting dose is usually around 0.7mg/kg but she only gets the benefit at the top dose of 3 mg/kg and obviously it took us quite a bit of time to get to that dose. Omperazole is a medication that takes time to see the benefit

It can take a few weeks for the gut to heal from the exposure to cows milk so it's not uncommon to still have symptoms in the first couple of weeks of being on a formula. Pepti is also a formula that is still cows milk based. One of the two dairy proteins have been broken down and this is enough for some babies to stop recognising it as dairy. Some babies still react, some babies are allergic to the other protein so need one of the other formula, some babies are allergic to both or very sensitive in which case they need a completely dairy free formula termed amino acid formulas the most common of these are neocate and alfamino.
So unfortunately formula also isn't always a quick fix either. Give the formula 5-10 days and hopefully you should start to have a sense if things are slowly moving in the right direction in which case give it 2-3 weeks. If things are as bad as ever or getting worse going back to the drs.

Hi my LO (5 weeks) has just been diagnosed with both too! Started her on the omeprazole
tonight and she seems to be worse wondering if it got better with your little one as I’m not sure wether I should continue with the omeprazole. Still wait in for the aptamil pepti 1 to have an affect too.

I think you may need a different prescription formula

It’s always very difficult to tell when you start two things at the same time - not your fault, it’s what was recommended to you!

For some babies Aptamil Pepti is not milk-free enough. Omeprazole is generally very well tolerated even in young babies, though.

Yellow poop is normal in babies, even formula-fed ones. Watery with undigested matter is slightly less so IMHO but baby poo can come in many different varieties.

Sometimes it take a a while for the milk proteins to wash out. I’d expect some sort of relief after 5 days, though.

Is she gaining weight ok, sleeping ok, having some happy periods?
