Night feeds

Hi,

I'm pregnant with baby no 2 (DS is 6). 6 months into pregnancy I'm now starting to think about feeding. DS was EFF due to tongue tie. Would like to BF if possible but thinking about formula just incase.

I had the tomee timee prep machine for night feeds with DS but remember it being a pain to wash, messy and have seen videos online regarding mould and bacteria. Have been researching the "pitcher method" online. (Bottles made up in a pitcher, poured into bottles and stored in fridge then warmed when needed - 24 hours only). Was wondering if anyone has done this? Was thinking of getting a little fridge for bedroom and a bottle warmer for night feeds only?

TIA x

When I had my 1st DC (over 30 years ago) it was the norm to make 6 bottles at once, let them cool and then store in the fridge to use within a day - sounds like the same premise as pitcher method? Night time bottle would be heated up either in the microwave or by putting bottle in a jug of hot water.

By the time I had my 3rd DC (I had an 18 year age gap between 1st and 3rd!) the advice had changed to making up a bottle at time of feeding. I didn't do that. I figured my other two DC had turned out ok so just did the same (making a day's worth of bottles every day).

You will get conflicting advice on this. No doubt the pitcher method will be frowned upon as it goes against the make-on-demand advice, but I think as long as you follow the storage advice, sterilising properly and use within 24 hours etc, baby will be fine, but I'm old skool!

With my oldest who I didn't breastfeed I just made up bottles in the morning then put them in the fridge, for me that's safer than being sleep deprived and boiling a kettle at 2am where mistakes can easily be made with correct amount of scoops, I did try and do that initially as was told not to pre make bottles but I did have a couple of nights where I forgot how much formula I put in a bottle and had to start again all while being horribly exhausted so I decided it was best to just do them all at once

I have the TT bottle coolers. I take a flask upto bed and make it up with them and wash in bathroom after use.
