7 weeks of BF and suddenly painful...

I dont want to change to formula because of the health risks and I would feel soooo guilty if anything happened to LO because I stopped BF.

Anyway, it has recently started to become really painful to BF - its as if at the very start when he latches on, I get stabbing pains in my nipples then it eases off but starts again when it feels like my breast is nearly empty.

Also, he doesnt know when to stop feeding and would suckle all day and night if I didnt stop him. He spent an hour on one boob and must have just been using me as a dummy at some point but I couldnt tell...

He seems hungry all the time and is constantly crying at the moment as I dont seem to give him enough milk. I expressed the other night and got 240 ml out. He drank the lot and was STILL shaking his head from side to side when I was holding him. I offered him my breast and he just started again. As you can guess, he threw up a lot of milk as he seems to be overeating.

What do I do?

SOrry for long post but I am struggling and worried about him. HV just says he must be having growth spurt and just to feed him as much as he wants!!! But that would be 24/7..

Help - I am exhausted.

Do get yourself checked for thrush. He may well be having a growth spurt which will probably last 3-6 days.

Perhaps it's not a hunger issue but something's clearly going on.

I had terrible pains, so bad it made me cry each time I fed, for the first six weeks. I didn't realise at the time but looking back now I'm almost certain it was thrush.

Also, my dd was the same with wanting to feed all the time until she found her thumb at 8 weeks. Could it be just for comfort? Especially if he's throwing some of it up. Maybe you could try a dummy? I didn't want to with my dd but think if I had it may have made things a lot easier in those first few wks cos she was (and still is!) a very sucky baby.
