Weight gain - worried about next appointment

I know, I know, weight means nothing, centile charts mean nothing, yadda yadda yadda... But I am a bit worried, and could do with a bit of reassurance.
My 9 month old is currently dropping through the charts. At 8 months old she had only put on 5oz in a month. I know I probably shouldn't go and get her weighed again, but TBH I'd just like to see how she's getting on. I don't plan on going again if the weight gain is still low.
Last time, the HV told me to start her on 3 meals a day, which I have ignored as she doesn't seem to want it just yet. I plan on asking her if she thinks DD looks hydrated and alert, and if she's meeting milestones. If so then why worry?
I would just really like someone to say 'Yes I had a small baby and they're older now and fine,' and that I've nothing to worry about. Please?
BTW, DD is crawling, pulling up, and just this week has started trying to stand unaided, So she is more than meeting her milestones. TIA!

Look at the tiny acorns-mighty oaks thread!

charchargabor · 02/05/2008 19:57

Thanks sally. I have looked at the thread. DD used to put on weight really quickly, it is only recently that it has slowed down. I know it's the natural weight gain of a breastfed baby, but hv doesn't seem to know anything about that and is stressing me out

did you look at the WHO charts for bf babies?

charchargabor · 02/05/2008 20:30

MamaChris - yes, she's dropped down on that chart as well She has been mobile for quite a while - crawling just before 7 months and rolling and commando crawling for about a month before that, so I just figure that she's burning off all the calories. She looks like she's thriving, just small. The HV even said last time that her thighs had filled out, it was only when she saw her weight that she said I had to change things. I wish I'd never had her weighed in the first place now

I have a tiny baby and she's fine!
and you have nothing to worry about

and you can stop weighing her if you want
(or buy your own scales like I did)

Mine is 9 months too and about 15 lb 8 ish.

Stop worrying - she sounds lovely!

Thanks VLC! I know there's nothing to worry about, but it's so hard isn't it?! She's so happy and healthy looking, and ridiculously active, I just need to relax. It's nice having people reassure me though! The one good thing is that she at least gets a lot of wear out of her clothes, as she takes so long to grow out of them Right, will repeat my mantra: She is fine, quit worrying! Thanks everyone!

OMG Just checked your profile and she's beautiful!

And in fact she reminds me a little of my own cheeky little number!!!!

charchargabor · 03/05/2008 01:00

Thankyou so much! I've just checked yours too, and baby carrot is gorgeous! They look starved don't they? Wish DD had that much hair though!

babycarrot's hair all fell out at 7 months - I was distraught. She has new growth now tho' several shades lighter.

I miss her lovely hair...sigh

charchargabor · 03/05/2008 08:46

DD's hair seems to be getting lighter as well now. She had loads of hair when she was born, and over the first few months the top just fell out, leaving her with a monk's haircut. I was devastated, so I know the feeling! DD's is finally looking a bit more even, but it's slow going!
