Wind?

ChaosHol1 · 24/12/2024 22:59

Could be reflux, how old is the baby?

An89 · 24/12/2024 23:03

He is very windy and gassy baby In general :( first time mum so really struggling with figuring out what is normal

@ChaosHol1 baby is 10 weeks, considered reflux but doesn't usually have much spit back- although DS has started locking his his lips and smacking his tongue when nothing is there..

My DS does exactly this when he really needs a poo or fart! If baby is only ten weeks hopefully his belly will start to settle soon xx

modgepodge · 24/12/2024 23:10

Does he have a dummy? Mine used to do this, he wanted to suck but got cross if milk actually appeared in his mouth 😂 introduced a dummy and it solved it.

Hi,
my baby did this for so long turned out to be an overactive let down and an over supply
so baby couldn't handle the flow

I block fed to calm things down it worked!x

I would get baba checked for silent reflux. Refluxy babies don't always vomit. It sometimes comes up the oesophagus and then goes back down again.

Long time since I’ve had a baby - but recently saw a clip of a nurse/ midwife/ holding baby on its stomach over her forearm and using her other hand to slightly stretch and twist lower end and it guaranteed a burp or fart… and seemed to really ease crying..
It was on a reputable site - and was all about getting the baby’s digestion moving smoothly.
There may well be other issues that have been mentioned but thought would mention this and will try and find link to it!

Thank you, just wondering, what is block feeding?

This sounds great, do you have the link by any chance? @Lilactimes

My DS did this and it was a cow's milk allergy.

LegoHouse274 · 26/12/2024 22:55

Could be any of a number of things. My third child is the same age as yours. Amongst my kids the reasons have been:

  • Actually just full (how do you know they're still hungry if they won't feed anymore? Just wondering)
  • Wind - give them a good winding, sometimes my DC does one or more big burps or gets hiccups, and then is ready to feed again a bit later once they're done
  • Needs to poo, and will feed again once it's out
  • Tired and doesn't know how to get to sleep. If they have a dummy this helps that massively, but my current baby so far resolutely won't use one. Used one very effectively with my first two kids.
LegoHouse274 · 26/12/2024 22:56

Oh yes and I forgot another one - flow of milk is too fast, or too slow!

Superscientist · 28/12/2024 13:18

My daughter did this it was due to severe silent reflux and multiple food allergies. She had moderate reflux too and the GP only treated this and didn't consider silent reflux so it took until 17 weeks to get the silent reflux and allergies diagnosed

Join your local breastfeeding peer support group. Your baby will go through so many leaps and growth spurts, weaning and teething and illnesses etc in the next two years and each one brings about changes in feeding behaviour.

this isn’t the one I saw originally - but this also came up on my insta feed ! (Not sure why I’m getting these my daughter is 19!) But this was a similar principle - stretching stomach and legs. Maybe something like this combined with checking on reflux and poss allergies with your health visitor may help?
Good luck x

If he was feeding well before, then it could be inner ear pain. If this has been the case since birth then reflux or wind from lugging down too much milk/fast let down could be the reason.
