Making up formula when abroad, would I better with the readymade stuff?

I am BF but Callum has a bottle sometimes, would I be able to make up formula while in mencora, with boiled water? or would I be better off with the ready made stuff? First time abroad with a baby, its so stressful!!

i would go for readymade tbh and say 'well we are on holiday' to justify the extra cost

If you make it up in menorca, I'd use boiled bottle water, rather than tap water.

I have milk tokens somewhere, will dig them out and get some readymade stuff.

will I be able to take milk on the plane? Can I buy some in Menorca?

i pack milk in the luggage, not hand luggage cause i always think security might mistake it for something else
take as much as you think you will need, then enough for a couple more bottles. just make it up when you get there with boiled bottled water

I've taken formula in hand luggae and as long as you are prepared to drink a bit at security they are happy with this. A lighter alternative to readymade formula is buying sachets of ready measured formula that you just tip into the bottle of water (very handy if out and about) I also used bottled water. The other thing i found very handy is mothercare do disposable steralising bags which you just add water to and throw away after 24 hours.

When I went to egypt with 12mo ds. I phoned the sma helpline about this. They told me I could use bottled water with the lowest sodium content (I cant remember the figure, but give them a bell). I then used sachets like sun suggested. I took a bit of milton to wash the bottles. Have a nice time.

I have just returned fromDubai where I used boiled tap water. My sister lives there and they all use tap water for tea, coffee etc but have bottled for drinking cold. DS did not notice any difference.

I can't speak for any other country though so best to take ready made. But what did people do before you could buy ready made I wonder?

Recommended sodium content for bottled water is less than 20mg/litre, ideally less than 10mg/litre. I used powder on holiday and took a travel kettle to boil the water just because ready made added too much weight to the suitcase. I also took steribottles for convenience. Hope this helps

I was told by my HV to just used bottled when we go to Malaysia next month. No need to boil it as well, so she says. I'm happy with that.
I will take ster. tablets with me though to wash the bottles.

You can make bottles up on the plane if you want to keep the powder separate until then. Although, I would have the bottles full of just water ready for travel, and just get the cabin crew to heat it up for you when you need it. I personally would just not trust that their very, very hot water for tea and coffee has actually been boiled. And may have sat there for ages.

Actually thinking about it, if you boil bottled water, the sodium and other minerals would become more concentrated so just using the bottled water would be better.

wait a minute - I'm not one to take "official advice" without questioning it, but i'm pretty sure there are serious reasons why we're supposed to use recently boiled water... the high temperature kills a potentially harmful bug which can be present in milk powder. So, I wouldn't disregard the temperature issue if you're using powder...

there are links online to infant fatalities and infant formula powder but I don't have them to hand. I think the deaths were in France and/or Belgium though, if that helps.

IME, we took readymade with me on all hols, and it def made it more of a holiday IYKWIM! less worrying about water quality, water temperature, mixing, measuring, etc etc

they last for ages if not opened. But only 24hrs once open, in the fridge.

If you only need milk for 1 bottle a day then I would absolutely take cartons...far less hassle.
