who said she could?

TigerFeet · 01/05/2008 13:03

wtf?

surely even the most outdated, poorly trained HV wouldn't think that this is OK???

kiskideesameanoldmother · 01/05/2008 13:07

nope, it was said in all seriousness. the mum who thankfully knows better just managed to stop herself from laughing in her face.

in what context?

Elasticwoman · 01/05/2008 21:37

I was once told by hv that as my 9 mo was on breastmilk, not formula, she should be having vitamin drops as well. I told her to her face that was rubbish.

moondog · 01/05/2008 21:38
Hmm
jaynz · 01/05/2008 21:55

Imagine how much money you could make if you could actually get fizzy pop to come out of your boobies

Liz79 · 01/05/2008 22:14

Unicef/NHS leaflet on weaning recommends bf babies over 6 months have vitamins. Vitamins are added to formula so those babies don't need more. My husband and I both take multivits so I don't see the difference. Doesn't replace good diet though, is just a boost.

Is pathetic to give tiny baby fizzy juice, the poor thing.

kiskideesameanoldmother · 02/05/2008 11:12

not too sure of the context. some of my yr 10 boys sit and have lunch in my classroom and one of the very switched on ones just happened to mention it to me (he is targetted for A and A* in all his GCSE's) . I was so amazed I asked him if it he was sure that that is what the hv told his sister. He said he was and was deadly serious about it. he also said one of the hvs who came by when this one was off recommended that she experiment with weaning around 16 to 17 wks to get the baby used to a spoon.

Liz, there is enough evidence based references on here which state that vitamin drops are not necessary for a baby who is breastfed. (search with a key word like 'iron') There is some more current recommendation that babies who are covered up a lot in the winter months, have darker skin, etc. may be advisable to give vit D but not multivitamins.
