Won't rehash the whole story, but in a nutshell...5wk old dd with slow weight gain, then slight weight loss, dodgy HV advice, pressure to top up, blah blah stress and tears (LOTS)...

also episodes with thrush, pain, etc etc

I knew deep down that my HV was talking gubbins, but I didn't have the strength, confidence, knowledge or energy to stand up to her...thanks to MN and wonderful advice from RL bfcs our formula top ups only lasted a few days really, we are now ex-BF at 20wks and it suddenly dawned on me the other day that there is now no reason why I can't be bf-ing to 6mths and beyond. I never thought I would get here and I am so happy that I have!

Since we escaped from the stress of (at least) twice weekly weigh-ins DD has started to pile on between 7-9oz each week.

I couldn't have done it without the advice and support gained on here - so thank you from - both of us!!

PS I know the charts are not the be all and end all - but it's still nice to see the little line going up the way at last!

Well done, Caz - glad to hear you sounding so positive about bf now!

Spidermama · 30/04/2008 20:41

Good for you Caz.
A big up for MN too.

Habbibu · 30/04/2008 20:44

Oh, bloody well done, Caz. And hurray to your dd!

foxythesnowfox · 30/04/2008 20:45

Fantastic! Well done you - be very proud of yourself

Caz10 · 30/04/2008 21:00

Thank you!

Disclaimer - I have nothing against ff-ing!!!

I can also guarantee that I will still be on here 14 times a day looking for advice!

Going back to work is my next challenge, hoping I can express enough to keep up with DD's appetite!

spidermama - a HUGE big up for MN, honestly. The BFCs were amazing in RL but the instant, all hours and realistic advice from MN is not to be beaten

I know what you mean Caz. It's like having a thousand sisters and auties all in one room to ask about their real life experiences.

edam · 30/04/2008 21:05

hurrah! Bloody well done, that woman.

Caz! That is fantastic! I remember how tough it was for you in the early days, and you weren't having much fun. I'm thrilled for you that things have worked out this way.

How heavy is she now?

SparklyGothKat · 30/04/2008 22:42

hurray!! I haven't had Callum weighed for about 3-4 weeks now. Last time he was weighed was at the hospital checkup and he was dropping back down to the 2nd percentile and heading back to the 0.4th. The doctor told me to increase his solids but I haven't and I don't care anymore. Callum is a happy and healthy baby.

Well done on doing so well. Callum is still BF at 7 months old, with the odd bottle of formula (if he is refusing to BF, I have very stubborn children lol)

welliemum · 30/04/2008 22:43

That's lovely, Caz! I'm so pleased for you!

I had a very similar early experience with dd1, so I know the relief when they start to put on weight!

BouncingTurtle · 01/05/2008 07:56

Great news Caz - and well done you

Caz10 · 01/05/2008 16:57

Thanks all!

VLC she is 13lbs 4oz at 20wks...so double her birthweight and then some...!

SGK Callum is adorable, and the picture of health, you are quite right not to be listening anymore. from what i recall your docs etc have been as helpful re bf-ing as mine?!

now i just need to get her to pack in the squirming/kicking/dancing/shrieking/grabbing whilst feeding...
